Nasa | what doesn't stay in vegas? sprawl.

When Landsat 5 launched on March 1, 1984, Las Vegas was a smaller city. This image series, done in honor of the satellite's 28th birthday, shows the desert city's massive growth spurt since 1972. The outward expansion of the city is shown in a false-color time lapse of data from all the Landsat satellites. The large red areas are actually green space, mostly golf courses and city parks. You'll notice the images become a lot sharper around 1984, when new instrument designs improved the ability to resolve smaller parcels of land. These Las Vegas images were created using reflected light from the near-infrared, red and green portions of the electromagnetic spectrum (Landsat 5 TM bands 4,3,2 and Landsat 1-3 MSS bands 4,2,1). Landsat data have been instrumental in increasing our understanding of forest health, storm damage, agricultural trends, urban growth, and many other ongoing changes to our land resources. Studies using Landsat data have helped land managers keep track of the pace of urbanization in locations around the world. NASA and the US Department of the Interior through the US Geological Survey (USGS) jointly manage Landsat, and the USGS preserves a 40-year archive of Landsat images with free distribution of data over the Internet. Satellite image tells misurata story

After the uprising in Libya began, the city of Misurata became an important strategic battlefield. It is the country's third largest city after the capital, Tripoli, and the rebel power base of Benghazi. It has been at the centre of a vicious tug-of-war between the two sides. Around 300000 people who live there were under virtual siege from mid-March until opposition forces were able to win control of the city over the last few weeks. However, the city is still the scene of fighting and rebels say at least 10 people were killed and 40 wounded after Gaddafi forces shelled the east of the city on Friday. During the seige, Gaddafi troops occupied the highways to the south of the city, cutting of its main supply routes from the east, west and south. Misurata's port, to the northeast, also came under attack. It had become an important escape route for civilians and migrant workers seeking to escape the conflict in Libya. But it also became a crucially important entry point for supplies shipped from Benghazi and beyond. Also in the northeast, the city's industrial centre and steel mill also came under attack. After Gaddafi's troops imposed the siege, the front line became Tripoli Street, which leads from the southern highway into the city centre. Nasa | satellites view growing gulf oil spill

Two NASA satellites are capturing images of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which began April 20, 2010 with the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. This short video reveals a space-based view of the burning oil rig and, later, the ensuing oil spill through May 24. The timelapse uses imagery from the MODIS instrument, on board NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites. The oil slick appears grayish-beige in the image and changes due to changing weather, currents, and use of oil dispersing chemicals. Satellite view of 24hr air traffic

24 HOURS OF WORLD AIRCRAFT TRAFFIC — VIEW FROM SATELLITE. The yellow dots are aircraft in the sky during a 24 hour period. Stay with the picture. You will see the light of day moving from the east to the west, as the Earth spins on its axis. Also you will see the aircraft FLOW OF AIR TRAFFIC leaving the United States and traveling at night to arrive in Europe in the morning. Then you will see the flow changing, departing Europe in the morning and flying to the North American continent in daylight. It is a 24 hour observation of all of the large aircraft flights in the world, condensed down to less than 2 minutes. From space we look like a beehive of activity. You could tell it was summer time in the north by the sun's foot print over the planet. You could see that it didn't quite set in theextreme north and it didn't quite rise in the extreme south. I have never seen this before. We are taught about the earth's tilt and how it causes summer and winter. The plume area in Arkansas is coming from near the dormant volcanic chain which includes Murfreesboro Diamond mine state park ... a dormant volcano where you can dig for diamonds. Also in south-east Missouri -- there resides a dormant volcano -- not marked on any map.. but you can see the county (i have done this already myself) .. go look up that county on google earth .. and look for the ONLY standalone mountain in the area.. zoom in... and you will see it ... clearly an UNMARKED or UNKNOWN dormant volcano.. (for sure unnamed). The whole event happened this afternoon (March 1, 2012) -- viewable on College of Dupage (or any other visible satellite of the midwest USA) ... The satellite creates a 121 megapixel image every 30 minutes with four visible and infrared light wavelengths. The infrared light appears orange in these images, and shows vegetation. The images were obtained beginning on May 14th, 2011 and end on May 20th. The images are the largest whole disk images of our planet, the resolution is 1 kilometer per pixel. The images are "masked" by a circular barrier that blocks out the light of the Sun and other stars. This is to prevent damage to the camera by exposure to direct sunlight. The 2011 hurricane season in 4.5 minutes

The 2011 Atlantic hurricane season officially ends on Nov. 30 and produced a total of 19 tropical storms of which seven became hurricanes, including three major hurricanes. This level of activity matched NOAA's predictions and continues the trend of active hurricane seasons that began in 1995. Surprisingly, none of the first eight tropical storms reached hurricane status, a record since reliable reports started in 1851. Hurricane Irene's effects in the Caribbean and the United States led to 43 deaths and accounted for the bulk of this season's damage at $7.3 billion. Irene was the first landfalling hurricane in New Jersey in 108 years. Hurricane Katia had far-reaching effects causing severe weather in Northern Ireland and Scotland and power blackouts as far east as Saint Petersburg in Russia. Tropical Storm Lee caused major flooding in Pennsylvania, New York and into the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario. The strongest storm of the season was Ophelia, which reached category four strength in the Atlantic Ocean east of Bermuda. An integral part of NOAA's ability to monitor and predict hurricane formation and movement is the data that is provided by the GOES satellite, with its visible imagery, infrared sensors, and sounding capabilities. Launch replay: vega qualification flight

The first Vega, flight VV01, lifted off from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana on 13 February 2012, on its way to carry nine satellites into orbit. This maiden voyage will add a new capability to Europe's fleet of launch systems. Mystery giant skeleton satellite images

GPS coordinates: 28.5634, 35.2806 as entered in Google Maps or Google Earth. The location is about a mile southwest of Jabal Al Lawz, a mountain in Saudi Arabia that has gained credibility as the actual location of the historical Mount Sinai. The area is desert-like, and the rainfall here is said to average around two tenths of an inch per year, which might allow something like this to remain intact for a long period of time. Stereoscopic views of the object indicate that it is a free-standing object that exists above ground level. A time-lapse of Planet Earth, created from images produced by the geostationary Electro-L Weather Satellite. The images were obtained from October 14th, 2011 to April 1st, 2012. The images are the largest whole disk images of our planet, each image is 121 megapixels, and the resolution is 1 kilometer per pixel. They are taken every half hour, and have been interpolated (smoothed) to create this video. The images are taken in four different wavelengths of light, three visible, and one infrared. The sequence of shots was taken December 29, 2011 from 20:55:05 to 21:14:09 GMT, on a pass from over central Africa, near southeast Niger, to the South Indian Ocean, southeast of Madagascar. The complete pass is over southern Africa to the ocean, focusing on the lightning flashes from local storms and the Milky Way rising over the horizon. The Milky Way can be spotted as a hazy band of white light at the beginning of the video. The pass continues southeast toward the Mozambique Channel and Madagascar. The Lovejoy Comet can be seen very faintly near the Milky Way. The pass ends as the sun is rising over the dark ocean. Earth from space

A time-lapse of Planet Earth, created from images produced by the geostationary Electro-L Weather Satellite. The images were obtained beginning on May 14th, and end on May 20th. The images are the largest whole disk images of our planet, each image is 121 megapixels, and the resolution is 1 kilometer per pixel. They are taken every half hour, and have been interpolated (smoothed) to create this video. The images are taken in four different wavelengths of light, three visible, and one infrared. Alien moon base captured by chang'e-2 orbiter? 2012

I was sent some pictures by a source who claims China will be releasing Hi Res images taken by the Chang'e-2 moon orbiter, which clearly show buildings and structures on the moons surface. He also claims NASA has deliberately bombed important areas of the Moon in an effort to destroy ancient artefacts and facility's. Pictures yet to be released clearly show nuclear impact craters and building debris caused by explosions in an effort by NASA to destroy the truth. China is moving toward full disclosure of the Extraterrestrial reality, if these images and future ones are verified genuine then NASA should be investigated for fraud and treason. China will be releasing all the data and images from the Chang'e-2 in the coming weeks and months, lets hope this is the beginning of a new era.
