This is fabulous. I ...
This is fabulous. I was relying on the user manual for Vegas Pro 10 which left out the most important step...so my individual entries were getting jumbled out of order. Very frustrating. I think the trick is moving everything to the right and then using Ctrl-K to relocate them to the appropriate place on the timeline. Anyway, thanks a million for this tutorial!

The next episode ...
The next episode shows where and how you can embed captions. BTW, if you are using the captions in DVDA, you can customize the look and display in DVDA once they are imported.

@Trillobyte, Closed ...
@Trillobyte, Closed Captioning, which is a US standard, is a very simple specification with very few options because it was developed for the old analog signal. There just isn't much WYSIWYG that could be added. For example, if you do not clear the memory with the {EDM} command, then the caption just goes away after 15 seconds. Take a look at the help file in Vegas and you will find a reference list of all the commands that Vegas supports.

yo, that works, ...
yo, that works, thanks a many! I had just helped myself out and copied the marker and took out the text - that made for a stop marker, too, then. But this is the proper way. Vegas' caption system is just so user-unfriendly. Why not regionlike caption markers with proper wysiwyg formatting? Thanks again for walking us through it. Is it also possible to render the captions into the video (aka embedding)?

@Trillobyte, Thanks ...
@Trillobyte, Thanks, I am a former full time teacher and I just find most software tutorials do not teach much because you don't enjoy watching them. I just like to lighten them up a little. To create a cation that clears the screen, make a new command marker and put {EDM} in the comment field. Those five characters tell the player to clear the display memory. My next episode will be out in a couple of days. CYA then.
