Actually the energy ...
Actually the energy that has to be replaced is not equal to 40,000,000 barrels a day. In germany, we still heat water and in some cases even home with electricity. That is some 18-21kW per electric continousflowheater. If we would replace that with solar heat modules combined with a gasheater in each home, the natural ressources needed would be cut by a huge margin. But corporate intrests are against this, because they want us to buy their electric power.

Greed on the top ...
Greed on the top and lack of foresight is key here. There has to be a serious effort by those in power. Globally. Little people can only do so much.

@qwizzer78 But ...
@qwizzer78 But governments THRIVE on all kinds of crises and scare tactics (especially false ones, unfortunately): "Iraq caused 911", "Iraq has WMDs", "drugs are bad", "marijuana is bad", crime, "terrorism", illegal immigrants. All kinds of bullshit. So that's not true. Politicians get elected BECAUSE of their exaggerated scare platforms. Too bad the warnings about climate change (from the IPCC) and peak oil are not scary ENOUGH to get action!

Yeah now the ...
Yeah now the problem is because we are all dumb ignorant sheep the govs of the world will engineer a false crisis. Do you really think they are just going to let the reduction in economic activity occur as a result of 5 or 10 million barrels of lost production. Bullshit. Hold on to your hats fellow little sheep we are going to have a bumpy dark ride

Burn the money ...
Burn the money Zeitgeist Forward & post it to youtube protest drive. Example: search ' Zeitgeist Forward Burning Money Protest Ed 1st '. What's a few minutes and some currency for a good cause? It's also a good pschological & spiritual break from this commercialism/materialism conditioning idolatry infecting us all. Burning some currency is good for the soul. The future is NOW.

No, because even if ...
No, because even if oil was Abiotic (it's not), It still is not created quick enough for supply. This is the reason that thousands of old wells around the Earth have depleted or are currently depleting without being replenished. A renewable resource that is over consumed has a peak extraction rate as that of a finite resource. A good example of this is black caviar from Russia, once was a cheap product in stores, now is an expensive luxury delicacy from over fishing.

Are we sure oil ...
Are we sure oil isn't Abiotic i.e. wasn't made from fossils or decayed vegetation but is instead created in the earth's mantle on a continuous basis? Perhaps the only thing finite about it is the rate at which this oil gets produced? Wouldn't it put a completely different picture on things if this were the case?
