The Venus Project-Resource Based Economy

The term and meaning of a Resource-Based Economy was originated by Jacque Fresco. It is a holistic social and economic system in which all goods and services are available without the use of money, credits, barter or any other system of debt or servitude. All resources become the common heritage of all of the inhabitants, not just a select few. The premise upon which this system is based is that the Earth is abundant with plentiful resource; our practice of rationing resources through monetary methods is irrelevant and counter productive to our survival. Modern society has access to highly advanced technology and can make available food, clothing, housing and medical care; update our educational system; and develop a limitless supply of renewable, non-contaminating energy. By supplying an efficiently designed economy, everyone can enjoy a very high standard of living with all of the amenities of a high technological society. A resource-based economy would utilize existing resources from the land and sea, physical equipment, industrial plants, etc. to enhance the lives of the total population. In an economy based on resources rather than money, we could easily produce all of the necessities of life and provide a high standard of living for all.

We are already ...
We are already robots in the monetary system, a Resource Based Economy is our ticket to freedom. In my work, everyday is the same routine, we do it over and over again like machines, then get paid with a lousy pay check. Plus we have the fear of getting laid off, or our hours get cut off and not be able to pay the bills. I don't know about you but I'm sick and tired of it. If you don't see this then you're a MORON !

Competition is ...
Competition is only present when there is a scarcity of resources. Other people and species use cooperation in order to survive.

Hi, did you people ...
Hi, did you people looked at "Earth Exchange based Economy". It is a new concept of economy where all the people work free of cost and all the organizations are noprofit organizations. It does have a concept of money and it is not similar to Resoure based economy.

"Competition fuels ...
"Competition fuels life." That's absolute nonsense. Try looking at more information on the subject before passing judgement and dismissal. Have you seen this? Paradise or Oblivion (28 language subtitles) /watch?v=KphWsnhZ4Ag It has more info.

This shut will never work.. And I hope it never does. Competition fuels life. You might as well be a robot in this society. Hell no.

Very inspiring idea ...
Very inspiring idea, but it will never materialize. Not because of political philosophy or cultural differences, but because of something much deeper and profound. Individuality and Religion. My thought process is much to critical and relative to place in text, so I condensed it to this. This is truly a very interesting conversation.

wtf are you talking ...
wtf are you talking about. i said it would be cool IF phones could be modified so they could be interchangeable.

AdamDeben on 2012-04-01
Then you should ...
Then you should probably educate yourself on what a phone actually is.

ChuckHitler on 2012-04-01
like you said ...
like you said before that is different from a phone. a phone needs to be NEAR you, not necessarily be owned by you. a phone is much better if it is in your home, or on you all the time. phones would be better if they could be interchangeable and not confined to their owners. this relieves the stress of ownership. a phone is just as interchangeable as sharp rocks are in a huntergatherer society. there is not a specific sharp rock for each person. this is also possible if we put our minds to it

ChuckHitler on 2012-04-01
most people will ...
most people will object public transportation because of their root desire to own something, not because its worse. its not ownership thats important, its the effeciency. it IS Possible for us to create a public transportation that is just as fast and 'direct" as individual transportation. it just takes some thinking outside of the box.

ChuckHitler on 2012-04-01
renting a car only ...
renting a car only makes someone unhappy because anyone can take it away at any time. it isnt guaranteed. the functionality of a car is needed. solution: public transportation. public transportation is better than individual cars. its also safer (no drunk drivers, racers, human error, etc).

ChuckHitler on 2012-03-31
LOL LOL. what ...
LOL LOL. what about gay marraige? what bout racism still being a huge problem? what about women still not having control of their uterus? what about the patriot act? what about police brutality? in a modern society you're not guaranteed A DAMN. THING. at least in a hunter gatherer society you're guaranteed food for very little work.

ChuckHitler on 2012-03-31
so neither the ...
so neither the basics like (food, human rights) nor the extras (medical attention, justice, internet) are guaranteed? how is that 'progress'? that's worse!!!! not only are you not guaranteed the BASICS that you ARE guaranteed in the "previous" stage of humanity, but you're not even guaranteed the extas!!! you can't even say "well I dont have food, but I have basic legal rights.

ChuckHitler on 2012-03-31
you get "extras" ...
you get "extras" like cars, internet, medical needs, a judicial system., but what the hell are those for if you cant achieve your BASIC needs, and if those "extras" arent even guaranteed? if it really was a "step up" from hunter gatherers, then the basics would be guaranteed.that means only need to work than 3-4 hours or less a day to achieve HIGH QUALITY FOOD.....AND.....AND we have the "extras".but those extras arent guaranteed are they? not everyone has medical care. not everyone get justice?

ChuckHitler on 2012-03-31
what exactly ...
what exactly defines progress? those people work 3-4 hours for top quality food and their diet varies because they are nomadic. in your/our society we could work 6-10 hours on average and get the lowest quality food. by lowest quality i mean you could not even be getting "real" food at all. you'd be getting sugar, msg, and preservatives. if you strive for the quality food you'd have little money to spend on other things.

ChuckHitler on 2012-03-31
"enlightenment" " ...
"enlightenment" "tribal phase"? LOL. yes, the British "enlightened" the Native Americans into reservations. Technology =/= enlightenment. Those "tribal" people work only 3-4 a day to stay alive whilst you work somewhere between 6-8 (maybe more) for less, risk it at any moment, and aren't getting quality organic food. Not to mention the crime, poverty, war, pollution, corruption, greed, etc and millions of other things YOUR society has that the "tribal" societies dont.

ChuckHitler on 2012-03-31
also when i wrote " ...
also when i wrote "effminacy" i meant to write "efficiency." I dont know what it came out that way. It must have been a typo or auto-corrected.

ChuckHitler on 2012-03-31
My point is you ...
My point is you cant jumble everything under the category of "want." because not ever thing serves a want, even the things that APPEAR to serve a want: an iphone, a microwave, etc. An iphone is no different to us than sharp rocks were to hunter gatherers. I'm not saying that some people want a phone or microwave simply to fulfill a want. Of course those people are out there. But those things are FUNCTIONAL and serve NEEDS. The need for less cooking time, the need for 24/7 internet access etc
