Has anybody checked ...
Has anybody checked out the free piston stirling cycle engine that Sunpower uses in their Biowatt electric generator design? Looks to be a good fit with the molton salt reactor idea. We might really end up with a nuke reactor in everybodies basement.

I'm not finding that; there are indeed some deposits in Afghanistan, as there are all over the world, but places like Lemhi Pass in the US are particularly rich. In India, there are entire *beaches* of Thorium sands in Kerala. There's lots to go around.

Google the quality too ! Its Afghanistan ....

@rubeius Why fk ...
@rubeius Why fk around with radioactive material? Burn hemp make steam. Cow poo generate methane fire make steam. All the nuke plants already in existence can be converted from using nuke fuel, to using sustainable biomass or methane gas which operates inside the carbon cycle, sinking as much as they produce, carbon. Why fk with nukes? Other than to blow shit up and make a fkn mess?

FYI, Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors are being proposed to run without steam.

Search online for estimated world thorium resources; 12-19 percent each, in decreasing order: Australia, USA, Turkey, India, Venezuela, Brazil (total 83 percent)

Actually it's ...
Actually it's everywhere the US has more than enough, you can even mine the ash from a coal fired power station for the thorium in that, China has huge reserves and is putting some serious investment into building a Thorium molten salt reactor.

The problem with ...
The problem with any nuclear reactor is the building and eventually the decommissioning of them takes so much energy that over the life of the plant your net gain is very small. This is true for any nuclear fuel plant. However , Th reactors would not generate plutonium, which is a plus, since Th 232 is hit with neutrons , makes Th 233 , decays to U 233, which then decays like U 235. There is as much Th on Earth as there is Pb; it is very abundant in the crust, esp in granite layers.

Nuke Energy is this ...
Nuke Energy is this simple, critical mass of nuke fuel gets hot, steams water, steam spins steam engine (1st century technology the steam engine was invented by Greek mathematician Hero) attached to the turbine of the steam engine is magnets which spin on a bearing past wire coils, generating electricity. You just swap out the nuke fuel for biomass fire and we can use ALL the nuke plants WITHOUT NUKE FUEL.

danielvincentkelley on 2012-01-10
Nuke energy is ...
Nuke energy is shite. Cow poo is the future of energy. Cow poo generates methane due methanogen bacteria. You put cow poo in a vat of water and feed it food scraps, cat shit, road kill, fallen leaves, anything biodegradeable and it turns all that fuel into methane gas which is combustible fuel you can power Internal Combustion Engines with (cars) or cook with by gas stove, or heat with by gas heater, or generate electricity with by steam turbine alternator. Nuke power IS a steam engine.

I didn't know about thorium. Thanks for the heads up.

Is it the only one ...
Is it the only one and are we being stopped by nuclear plant lobbyists of finding that answer? This is about an evolution issue, in our mindsets, how we think about "energy" and value we place on human life. By the way. Where do you propose we dispose of the waste? Your basement? Any volunteers??? Think of it this say: It will only be a problem until the next tsunami.

I watched Wellaware1's video for 15 minutes. I knew he was a fraud after about 30 seconds. Only an idiot could watch this guy's work for much longer. In fact, I'm a little embarrassed that I watched as long as I did. particlelight 1 sec ago

Wellaware1 is nothing more than a scam artist. Looked at about 15 minutes of one of this videos. He is a joke. If someone vaguely resembles someone else he claims it is the same person. It is obvious to anyone with eyes to see that it is not in fact the same person. Wellaware is either a scam artist or an attention whore. Either way, not a serious person.

Not only is the energy source vast and highly dense unlike many of the renewable sources of energy, but only through nuclear can we as a species produce in vast quantities of isotopes for medical, scientific and industrial purposes.

Why would anyone ...
Why would anyone want to get off this planet? Too escape a nuclear holocaust maybe? Nuclear Power is a tool of evil sold to an ignorant public by evil people who, at best, are greedy, but have set about to use nuclear power plants as a ticking time bomb weapon as they have in Fukushima. THe oceans around japan would still be fishable and swimmable, millions would not be radiated if it weren't for the misguided and silly logic of "nuclear power".

If Humans want to ...
If Humans want to get off this planet than we need to embrace nuclear and I suggest thorium because of a number advantages to the thorium liquid salt fuel cycle. I think the LFTR is the way to go about it though there are other MSR types such as a reactor that uses a subcritical fuel assembly and fission from a proton beam hitting a lead blanket covered in thorium.

Darkwizzrobe on 2012-01-09
If you want to mine ...
If you want to mine the moon thats fine but thorium can supply the earth with tens of thousands of years worth of energy cheaper than coal and there are other advantages of using the thorium fuel cycle if you want to know more look up energy from thorium on google their website has a lot of information and there are a lot of videos on youtube that can supply plenty of information as well
