Solar system planets (from smallest to largest)

Solar System Planets (from smallest to largest)
(Pluto is no longer classified as a planet, but it's there for size comparison. As for the Sun, it was never a planet but is here for the very same reason.) I always wanted to see a one-by-one comparison of the sizes of the planets, so I put the numbers into my 3d program. These are all correct proportions (of size, not distance). Tamen, the final planet, was a world we created when we were children. Obsessed with size, we said it was 1000 times larger than Earth's sun (this was actually only 100 times larger, because 1000 made the sun so small you couldn't really see it). We later learned that such a planet would have to much gravity that not only would no living thing survive, but you may get a nice little black hole started right there in the planet! Wow... and I just realized that had the sun have been sitting where it is in this video, it'd be sucked into the planet instantly. *Music Appropriately taken from season 1&2 of the BBC's Red Dwarf.

For free MP3s, worksheets and much more: www.kidstv123.com Kids songs song for children I am the sun. I'm a burning ball of fire. I'm very big indeed. Life on earth depends on me. I am the sun. I am Mercury. I'm the closest planet to the sun. I'm a ball of iron -- I have no moons. I am Mercury. I am Venus. I'm the same size as the Earth but I spin the other way and much more slowly. I have no water -- I am Venus. I am the Earth the place. The where we all live. There is land and lots of sea so I look blue. I have a moon. I am the Earth. I am Mars. I'm a rocky, red planet. My mountains are the highest in our solar system. I have 2 moons. I am Mars. I am Jupiter. I'm a gas giant. I'm the biggest and I spin the fastest. I have the biggest moon. I am Jupiter. I am Saturn. I'm a gas giant. My rings are made of ice. Titan is my biggest moon. I am Saturn. I am Uranus. I'm an icy gas giant. I'm the coldest planet in our solar system. And I have rings made of dust. I am Uranus. I am Neptune. I'm an icy gas giant. I'm the farthest planet from the sun. I have many storms. I am Neptune. We are The Solar System.

Dwarf planet crossing at the solar system's edge

Dwarf Planet Crossing at the Solar System's Edge
Watch this and other space videos at SpaceRip.com From ESOCast. Astronomers have accurately measured the size of the remote dwarf planet Eris for the first time. They caught it as it passed in front of a faint star. Eris also seems to be extremely reflective, probably because it is covered in a thin layer of frozen atmosphere. Occultations are rather like eclipses —the background star disappears behind the object and reappears on its other side. As viewed from Earth, the brightness of the background star suddenly drops and then returns equally suddenly to its previous level. By looking at these two events, astronomers can measure the size and shape of the occulting foreground object. If they also know the mass of this object they can then determine its density. The occultation technique has now enabled astronomers to learn a lot more about the dwarf planet Eris. Eris was identified as a large object in the outer Solar System in 2005. Its discovery was one of the factors that led to the creation of a new class of objects called dwarf planets and the reclassification of Pluto from planet to dwarf planet in 2006. Eris is three times farther from the Sun than Pluto at the moment, and until now was believed to be about 25% bigger. But the new observations show that Eris is in fact almost exactly the same size as Pluto, with a diameter of around 2330 kilometres. Because Eris also has a moon, called Dysnomia, astronomers have also been able to calculate the mass of Eris by a ...

PLANETS in our SOLAR SYSTEM: Earth and other planets orbiting our sun
BUY RK videos like this: videos.kightleys.com Science images: gallery.kightleys.com Science animations: www.rkm.com.au There are 8 planets in our solar system. From the Sun, the planets are: Mercury Venus EARTH Mars Jupiter (gas) Saturn (gas) Uranus (gas) Neptune (gas) (the outer four planets are all gas giants) This solar system animation shows the planets orbiting our sun. In this simulation, the planets are shown at their correct relative sizes (to each other) and their correct relative distances. Relative years (orbital periods) are also about right. The Earth, the third planet from the sun, takes just over 365 days to do a complete orbit of the sun (one Earth year). In this animation, the sun is shrunk down compared to the planets so that it doesn't swallow the innermost planets. In reality, the planets (and even the sun) are much much smaller than shown here. If shown to scale you would see nothing at all! The further a planet is from the sun, the slower it moves. Compare the sedate progress of the furthest planet Neptune (pale blue at upper right - with an orbital period of about 165 Earth years) to the frenzied circling of Mercury (the planet closest to the sun - whose year lasts less than a quarter of our Earth year). Notice also how Mercury speeds up as it gets closer to the sun.

Kepler discovers first earth-sized planets outside solar system

Kepler Discovers First Earth-Sized Planets Outside Solar System
NASA's Kepler mission has discovered the first Earth-size planets orbiting a sun-like star outside our solar system. The planets, called Kepler-20e and Kepler-20f, are too close to their star to be in the so-called habitable zone where liquid water could exist on a planet's surface, but they are the smallest exoplanets ever confirmed around a star like our sun. Kepler-20e is slightly smaller than Venus, measuring 0.87 times the radius of Earth. Kepler-20f is slightly larger than Earth, measuring 1.03 times its radius. Both planets reside in a five-planet system called Kepler-20, approximately 1000 light-years away in the constellation Lyra. Kepler-20e orbits its parent star every 6.1 days and Kepler-20f every 19.6 days. These short orbital periods mean very hot, inhospitable worlds. Kepler-20f, at 800 degrees Fahrenheit, is similar to an average day on the planet Mercury. The surface temperature of Kepler-20e, at more than 1400 degrees Fahrenheit, would melt glass. The planets dubstep - a journey through the solar system

The Planets Dubstep - A Journey Through The Solar System
A journey through the solar system and beyond. The Solar System: The Solar System is located in the Milky Way galaxy, which contains about 200 billion stars. The Solar System consists of the Sun and the astronomical objects gravitationally bound in orbit around it, all of which formed from the collapse of a giant molecular cloud approximately 4.6 billion years ago. The vast majority of the system's mass (well over 99%) is in the Sun. Of the many objects that orbit the Sun, most of the mass is contained within eight relatively solitary planets whose orbits are almost circular and lie within a nearly flat disc called the ecliptic plane. The four smaller inner planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, also called the terrestrial planets, are primarily composed of rock and metal. The four outer planets, the gas giants, are substantially more massive than the terrestrials. The two largest, Jupiter and Saturn, are composed mainly of hydrogen and helium; the two outermost planets, Uranus and Neptune, are composed largely of ices, such as water, ammonia and methane, and are often referred to separately as "ice giants". Solar System Educational Program - Using UDK
"The Solar System - Explore your backyard" is a highly immersive application that illustrates rather well the vastness of the world around us. Information regarding planets, constellations and countries are available at the click of a button, and in a fashion rarely seen. Rather than simply telling you the facts, I find that it's easier to show you; This means that instead of just reading about the gravitational pull or cross section of a planet, you get to view it in 3D in real time. This video is a quick fly-through, showing the different features available. Everything you see is 'In game'. Homepage: www.explorethesolarsystem.com Facebook Page www.facebook.com Developers homepage: www.chrisalbeluhn.com Edit a lot of people have commented about the scaling. As i said before this is just a work in progress so far, however there is a readout at the bottom of the screen. In the video when zooming in and out, you can see at the bottom of the screen the scales of the planets, moons and sun. There are options regarding scale and I'll go through them in a later video, but just know that everything IS to scale, it is simply enlarged to make it much easier to see, otherwise you'd only see the planet when you're completely zoomed in. However, if that's what you want, the option exists to make it that as well.

Wandering stars: a tour of the planets

Wandering Stars: a tour of the planets
Watch this and other space videos at SpaceRip.com A beauteous rip through the solar sytem, based on NASA's Science on a Sphere program "The Wanderers." In ancient times, humans watched the skies looking for clues to their future and to aid in their very survival. They soon observed that some stars were not fixed, but moved in the sky from night to night. They called these stars the wanderers. At the center of our solar system is the sun, binding the planets with its gravitational pull. From our viewpoint on earth, the sun appears small in the sky, but in reality it dwarfs even Jupiter, the largest planet in the solar system. The distance from the sun to the small worlds traveling it are vast. Light takes eight minutes to reach earth, and nearly a day to reach the farthest known bodies. Join us now as we tour our solar system, starting with sun-baked mercury and traveling to the remotest outskirts, where small, icy bodies move with only the faintest connection to our sun. Mercury Mercury, the closest planet to Sun is also the smallest terrestrial planet. It orbits so swiftly that its year lasts only 88 Earth days. The airless cratered surface could almost be mistaken for our moon, relentlessly bombarded by meteoroids for four and a half billion years. One of these encounters left a giant scar called the golarus basin, one of the largest impact sights in the solar system. Temperatures on the surface of mercury can reach a blistering 800 degrees Fahrenheit, and can dip to ...

Sensational solar system discovery

Sensational Solar System Discovery
Watch this and other space videos at SpaceRip.com Amazing news from ESO. Astronomers working with the super planet finding HARPS instrument at the La Silla Observatory in Chile, have discovered a remarkable extrasolar planetary system that has some striking similarities to our own Solar System. At least five planets are orbiting the Sun-like star HD 10180, and the regular pattern of their orbits is similar to that observed for our neighbouring planets. One of the new extrasolar worlds could be only 1.4 times the mass of the Earth, making it the least massive exoplanet ever found.

Tale of the shepherd planets

Tale of the Shepherd Planets
Watch this and other space videos at SpaceRip.com Until recently, the search for planets beyond our solar system was a matter of calculating the odds and laying out theories of solar system formation. Circumstantial evidence began to trickle in, a color shift in a stars light as a planet tugged on it, or a dipping in its light as a planet passed in front. When would our technology allow us to see through the bright light of stars to see these alien worlds directly? Scientists using the Hubble Space Telescope began examining a star visible in the southern hemisphere, just 25 light years away. Called Fomalhaut, it's much hotter than our sun and 15 times as bright. In fact, it's one of the brightest stars in our night sky. What makes it so curious is the large ring of gas that surrounds it. The ring is slightly off center from the location of the sun. That suggests there's a gravitational presence, a planet, that's distorting its shape. With a coronagraph in place to block the star's light, Hubble zeroed in on the ring. Right there in the data, it turns out, was a bump, perhaps a planet. Hubble photographed this planet a second time, two years later when it had progressed in its orbit. Based on the change in position, astronomers calculated that it takes about 872 Earth-years to complete an orbit. Astronomers thought it to be a huge planet, many times larger than Jupiter. The reason they could see is that it may have a very large and reflective ring system. From the ring's ...

Crop circles planet x cataclysms coastocoast am 04-30-2012.mov

Crop Circles Planet X Cataclysms CoastoCoast am 04-30-2012.mov
www.facebook.com www.coasttocoastam.com The Star Map of Doom... yowusa.com and publisher Marshall Masters specializes in Planet X and 2012 research. He discussed a specific crop circle, seen in Avebury Manor, UK in 2008 that depicts the planets in our solar system in the position they'll be in on December 21, 2012. According to his decoding of the crop formation's message, "we're going to see what appears to be a second sun in the sky...and there's going to be a horrific solar storm, somewhat similar to the one portrayed in the movie Knowing, and it's going to be devastating for us," he warned. Masters believes ETs have sent this message via a crop circle in order to circumvent government suppression of the dire information. The depiction in the Avebury crop circle indicates an incoming object in our solar system in Dec. 2012, arriving on a steep elliptical orbit, and a solar eruption extending as far out as Venus, he continued. Solar events will be even more damaging in 2013, and the grid will likely go down, leaving millions of Americans without power for many months, and even longer for the Third World nations, Masters continued. During the worse solar storms, the populace should be prepared to go underground, but in lieu of that, people should note where cell phone reception is weakest or non-existent, as these will be safer spots to be when the storm hits, he commented. Masters also related Edgar Cayce's pole shift prediction, Ed Dames' remote viewed Solar Killshot ...

Mandala (A Musical Palindrome), by Daniel Starr-Tambor
With more than 62 vigintillion individual notes, "Mandala" is the longest palindrome in existence. Composed using the first nine partials of the Natural Harmonic Series repeating at the accelerated tempos of our solar system, Mandala would continue without repetition for over 532.25 septendecillion years. In homage to "Art of the Fugue" by JS Bach, "Mandala" has been crafted to include the "musical signature" of it's author: the stereo imaging is arranged to reflect the exact position of the solar system at the moment of his birth, from the perspective of the Sun as it faces the constellation Libra, so that each note chronicles his birthday on every planet.

Sedna or solar system planet no:10

Sedna or Solar System Planet No:10
90377 Sedna is a trans-Neptunian object and a likely dwarf planet discovered by Michael Brown (Caltech), Chad Trujillo (Gemini Observatory) and David Rabinowitz (Yale University) on November 14, 2003. It is currently 88 AU from the Sun, about three times as distant as Neptune. For most of its orbit Sedna is farther from the Sun than any other known dwarf planet candidate. Sedna has a highly elliptical orbit, with its aphelion estimated at 975 AU and its perihelion at about 76.16 AU. At its discovery it was approaching perihelion and about 89.6 AU from the Sun. At the time of its discovery it was the most distant object in the solar system yet observed; although the orbits of some objects—like long-period comets—extend farther than that of Sedna, they are basically too dim to be observed except near perihelion. Eris was later detected at 97 AU. Sedna's precise orbital period is not yet known, but it is calculated at between 10.5 and 12.0 thousand years. It should reach perihelion in late 2075 to mid 2076. Sedna will overtake Eris as the farthest known spheroid orbiting the Sun in 2114. When first discovered, Sedna was believed to have an unusually long rotational period (20 to 50 days). A search was thus made for a natural satellite, the most likely cause for such a long rotation, but investigation by the Hubble Space Telescope in March 2004 observed no such object orbiting the planetoid. New measurements from the MMT telescope suggest a much shorter rotation period, only ...

Breaking News! Planet X Has Been Found - May 24, 2012 | Nibiru*
(The evidence for 'Planet X' - the mysterious hypothesised planet on the edge of our solar system - has taken a new turn thanks to the mathematics of a noted astronomer. Rodney Gomes, an astronomer at the National Observatory of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, says the irregular orbits of small icy bodies beyond Neptune imply that a planet four times the size of Earth is swirling around our sun in the fringes of the solar system. Planet X - perhaps mis-named now that Pluto has been demoted to a dwarf planet - has been widely hypothesised for decade, but has never been proven. Gomes measured the orbits of 92 Kuiper belt objects - small bodies and dwarf planets - and said that six objects appeared to be tugged off-course compared to their expected orbits) - Daily Mail May 24, 2012 Read more: www.space.com Read more: www.dailymail.co.uk

Myth and folklore depicting a repeating cycle of Golden Ages and Dark Ages may have a basis in fact, due to the alternating stellar forces that affect Earth as our solar system moves in a binary (dual star) orbit. Space engine - planetary conjunctions, m95 supernova & exo-planets

Space Engine - Planetary Conjunctions, M95 Supernova & Exo-planets
We're back in the free 3-D space simulator software called Space Engine to clear-up a few questions from the last Stellarium Sky Tour video I uploaded: youtu.be We take a look at the solar system and learn how the geometry of orbits can produce a close conjunction between planets as distant from each other as Venus and Jupiter. Then, its a quick journey 38 million light-years away to M95, to see where supernova 2012aw was detected on March 16th. Last, we take a leisurely stroll around the Milky Way to discover planetary systems around other stars using Space Engine's procedurally generated content. Windows users can get Space Engine at en.spaceengine.org Thanks for watching! Please "like" if you like this video and let me know what you think in the comments! The solar system

The Solar System
The Beautiful music on this video, www.gnpcrescendo.com Hi There everyone :-) I have created a new video, this one is called "The Solar System". This video took a long time to make from pictures I acquired From NASA. All the Beautiful pictures Except the Moon was downloaded from their web site, the Moon however I took myself using my 5 inch Refractor and my Canon EOS T3I 18 Megapixel Camera, that I attached to my 5 Inch Refractor at prime focus. The video is best at Full-Screen 1080p... I hope all of you enjoy the Video as much as I enjoyed making it. I would like to thank NASA and all the people who worked years to bring all these photos to us, they are truly beautiful and amazing,. I would also like to thank GNP Crescendo Record Co. Inc for their wonderful soundtrack, it was so perfect to get the mood I was looking for. Without all of these people this video would not have been possible. The reason I made the video When I was 7 years old a friend of mine came over to the house, he had with him a 4.5 inch Towa Reflecting Telescope. That night when it got dark, we pointed the telescope at what we thought was a very bright star, but it was not a bright star at all, it was the planet Jupiter, and its 4 largest moons. I was amazed at what we could see with just a small telescope, from that day forward I was hooked on Astronomy. A couple of weeks ago my father in-law an I were sitting on the back porch looking at the stars in wonder, the Full Moon began to come up in the ...

Nasa finds earth-like planet kepler 22-b

NASA FINDS EARTH-LIKE PLANET Kepler 22-B
NASA FINDS EARTH-LIKE PLANET Kepler 22-B The planet is smack in the middle of what astronomers call the Goldilocks zone, that hard to find place that's not too hot, not too cold, where water, which is essential for life, doesn't freeze or boil. And it has a shopping mall-like surface temperature of near 72 degrees (22 degrees Celsius), scientists say. The planet's confirmation was announced by NASA along with other discoveries by its Kepler telescope, which was launched on a planet-hunting mission in 2009. That's the first planet confirmed in the habitable zone for Kepler, which had already found Earth-like rocky planets elsewhere. Twice before astronomers have announced a planet found in that zone, but neither have been as promising. "This is a phenomenal discovery in the course of human history," Geoff Marcy of University of California, Berkeley, one of the pioneers of planet-hunting outside our solar system, said in an email. "This discovery shows that we Homo sapiens are straining our reach into the universe to find planets that remind us of home. We are almost there." The new planet - named Kepler-22b - has key aspects it shares with Earth. It circles a star that could be the twin of our sun and at just about the same distance. The planet's year of 290 days is even close to ours. It likely has water and rock. The only trouble is the planet's a bit big for life to exist on the surface. The planet is about 2.4 times the size of Earth. It could be more like the gas-and ...

Painting a solar system

Painting a Solar System
Solar System. I have been feeling like painting lately. And sorry I kept getting in the camera rofl. This is my first attempt at something like this, so go easy on me. I have never taken an art class either. I used acrylic paints, water, and a canvas. It took about 4 hours to finish. Enjoy. Of the many objects that orbit the Sun, most of the mass is contained within eight relatively solitary planets whose orbits are almost circular and lie within a nearly flat disc called the ecliptic plane. Space odyssey: voyage to the planets 1 - bbc

Space Odyssey: Voyage To The Planets 1 - BBC
Space Odyssey: Voyage To The Planets This two-part science fiction docu-drama examines the possibilities of a dangerous, manned space mission to explore the inner and outer planets of the Solar system. Five astronauts pilot the nuclear thermal rocket powered Pegasus spacecraft on a tour of the solar system. Their mission is a collaboration of the NASA, CSA, ESA and РКА space agencies and takes the crew to Venus, Mars, a close flyby of the Sun, Jupiter's moon Io and Europa, Saturn, Pluto, and the fictional Comet Yano-Moore. Most of the planetary destinations the crew reaches are followed by a manned landing there. Prior to the mission large tanks of hydrogen were deposited in stable orbits around the planets to allow the crew to refuel to have sufficient delta-v for the multi-year mission. The crew encounter many hardships and disappointments along the way. A Venus EVA that almost ends in disaster when the lander Orpheus encounters launch delays, the near-loss of the shield during the aerobrake in Jupiter's upper atmosphere (according to the first part of the miniseries) and the loss of samples from Jupiter's moon Io all test the crew's resolve. The most devastating blow comes when the ship's medical officer dies of solar radiation-induced lymphoma in Saturn orbit, forcing the crew to decide whether to continue the mission to Pluto, or abort and return to Earth. In the original British release, the crew decides to press on to Pluto, making history.
