Police arrest 73 in occupy wall street crackdown as protesters mark six months of uprising

Police Arrest 73 in Occupy Wall Street Crackdown As Protesters Mark Six Months of Uprising
democracynow.org - Michael Moore led hundreds of people from the Left Forum conference to Zuccotti Park on Saturday where hundreds had gathered to re-occupy the park to mark six months since the launch of the Occupy Wall Street movement, which began last September and launched protests around the world that gave voice to "the 99 percent." That night, New York City police officers cleared the park making at least 73 arrests. Many people reported excessive use of force by officers, several cases were caught on camera. In one widely reported incident, a young woman suffered a seizure after she was pulled from the crowd and arrested. Witnesses say police initially ignored Cecily McMillan as she flopped about on the sidewalk with her hands zip-tied behind her back, but she was eventually taken away in an ambulance. www. DemocracyNow.org - It is day 10 of the "Occupy Wall Street" campaign. On Saturday, more than 80 protesters were arrested as hundreds took part in yet another march to Wall Street. Many of them were committing civil disobedience by walking in the street, but some say they were on the sidewalk when officers with the New York City Police Department used nets and physical force to break up the crowd. Videos uploaded to YouTube show officers pepper-spraying protesters in the face from close range, punching demonstrators and dragging people through the street. Since Sept. 17, thousands have gathered near in New York City's financial district near Wall Street to decry corporate greed, many have said to have been inspired by other popular uprisings from Spain to the Arab Spring. On Sunday, protesters issued a communique calling for the resignation of the NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly, and for a dialogue with Mayor Michael Bloomberg. David graeber on the occupy wall street protest & forgiving debt of the american poor

David Graeber on the Occupy Wall Street Protest & Forgiving Debt of the American Poor
DemocracyNow.org - As President Obama prepares to outline a deficit-reduction plan that includes tax increases, as well as cuts to programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, anthropologist David Graeber proposes a radical solution: cancel the debt of the nation's poor. "Debts between the very wealthy or between governments can always be renegotiated and always have been throughout world history. They are not anything set in stone," says Graeber, author of "Debt: The First 5000 Years," on Democracy Now! today. "It's generally speaking when you have debts owed by the poor to the rich, debts becomes a sacred situation, more important than anything else. The idea of renegotiating them becomes unthinkable." On the Occupy Wall Street protest, Graeber says, "If you look at who showed up [in Egypt and Spain], it was mostly young people, and most of them were people who had gone through the educational system who were deeply in debt and who found it completely impossible to find jobs. ... The system has completely failed them ... If there's going to be any kind of society worth living in, we're going to have to create it ourselves." Occupy wall street protests spread all over us despite police brutality & corporate media blackout

Occupy Wall Street protests spread all over US despite police brutality & corporate media blackout
Many protesters say the mainstream media is undergoing a black-out since many corporate networks sleep in the same bed with Wall Street. Most of the 700 protesters arrested in the "Occupy Wall Street" march onto the Brooklyn Bridge in New York have been released. The unabashed demonstrators promise more marches to slam "corporate domination" and America's crippled economy. The protesters were charged with disorderly conduct and summoned to appear in criminal court. The small group still remaining in custody is awaiting identification. The mass arrests on Saturday by the New York Police Department came during the protesters' march onto the Brooklyn Bridge, when thousands of protesters failed to keep to the sidewalks, eventually blocking car traffic. That, at least, is what the NYPD says. As the "Occupy Wall Street" protest enters its third week, it has gained nationwide support, with unions joining in. Still, little apparent support has come from corporate US media, which mostly plays down the importance of the event or toes the police line, omitting scenes of police brutality and questioning the credibility of the protesters. Cops might be cracking down on Occupy Wall Street protesters in New York City, but activists are now bringing their big-bank bashing across the country with demonstrations springing up from coast-to-coast. More than a week after protests began in Lower Manhattan, the Occupy Wall Street movement is moving, well, off of Wall Street. Both Los Angeles ...

Any email sent with the words Occupy Wall St or Occupy WallSt.org were being caught in spam filters and blocked. Yahoo has stated that this was not on purpose. Peter schiff speaks for 1 percent at occupy wall street

Peter Schiff Speaks for 1 Percent at Occupy Wall Street
Last week, Reason.tv followed investment guru, radio show host, and unflappable defender of capitalism Peter Schiff as he spent three hours among the Occupy Wall Street protesters in Manhattan's Zuccotti Park. An unapologetic member of "the 1 Percent," Schiff argued with all comers for the better part of an afternoon. Schiff is no ordinary observer. As the prinicipal of the financial firm Euro Pacific Capital, he's a full-fledged and unapologetic member of "the 1 Percent." As an outspoken radio show host and commentator, he not only predicted the housing crash and financial crisis, he railed bank and auto-sector bailouts as they were happening. Schiff believes that capitalism offers is the only hope for young, frustrated people to have a vibrant and prosperous future. So he went to Occupy Wall Street to engage and debate the protesters. Touring the Occupy Wall Street scene in New York with a sign that read "I Am the 1%, Let's Talk," Schiff spent more than three hours on the scene, explaining the difference between cronyism and capitalism, bailouts and balance sheets, and more. "The regulation we want is the market," said Schiff. "That's what works." Schiff describes himself as "sympathetic" to the plight of the OWS protesters, but thinks their anger is misdirected at legitimate business interests and should be better at the White House, Congress, the Federal Reserve, and the crony capitalists they've bailed out. Check out Schiff's Euro Pacific Capital at www.europac.net ...

AMAZING Occupy Houston Protest 占める Ocupa Wall Street
Occupy Houston joins Occupy Wall Street demonstrations to protest "corporate corruption" of government and politics by the wealthiest "1%" of citizens by "drowning out" the voices and concerns of "99%" of the population. FROM OCCUPY WALL ST EXCERPTS: On September 17th, men and women of all races, backgrounds, political and religious beliefs, (republicans, democrats, liberals, independents, etc.) began to organize in non-violent protest demonstrations. These men and women represent the 99% with the goal of ending the corporate greed and corruption of the wealthiest 1% of America in government politics. (JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Federal Reserve, lobbyists, Congress, Congressman, Senators, etc.) Occupy Wall Street is a leaderless resistance movement, a social and political and civil rights revolution which began as a call to action from Adbusters, a Canadian-based anti-consumerist organization.
