American presidency in obsolescence

American Presidency in Obsolescence
It may be the appropriate time to consider the evolving nature of the presidency. IN 1790 America had a population of 4 million. Today the number may be closing in on 320 million. A unitary figure as our leader of this nation may have become obsolete. America is being mismanaged on a number of levels and a means to improve governing in the Executive Branch time may be approaching. America may need another form of presidency to effectuate government function. This video illuminates these points and suggests changes. Mark Davis MD author of Demons of Democracy.

La camioneta - the journey of one american school bus - sxsw 2012 accepted film

La Camioneta - The Journey of One American School Bus - SXSW 2012 Accepted Film
Every day dozens of decommissioned school buses migrate from the United States to Guatemala, where they are repaired, repainted, and resurrected as the brightly-colored camionetas that bring people to work each day. Since 2006, nearly 1000 camioneta drivers and fare-collectors have been killed for not paying the extortion money demanded by local gangs. "La Camioneta" follows the migration of one bus as a vehicle into the stories of five men whose lives become intertwined with its resurrection. Like the bus that unites their stories, the choice between obsolescence and innovation defines their decisions, propelling them toward an increasingly uncertain future.

Made In America by Sam Walton - it's Flammable
Walmart may be the worst business in America: it's just terrible for everyone but Sam Walton and his family. Low wages and no health care for its full-time employees, forcing them on public assistance that You and I pay for even as the company rakes in millions in profits; importing almost everything from China, thereby supporting slave wages in a country that kills protesting monks and students; prices so low that they put local stores out of business, ruining small town infrastructure and entrepreneurial spirit across our great country; providing poorly-made, planned obsolescence crap that will break but won't fill that void in your heart...makes us want to BURN BURN BURN the fucker responsible...or at least his book "Made In America," which was actually printed in Canada. Sam Walton, you have no soul, and you are as bad for America as Al Qaeda. You are a pig fucker and I hope that when you die, it's a painful, long, tortured death. (okay, calm down, take a breath, never support Walmart...) We would never condone burning books...well, with one exception. If you like FIRE, love America and HATE WALMART, then please WATCH our Book Review Hosted By Dain Sandoval

The light bulb conspiracy

The Light Bulb Conspiracy
Available on DVD: www.videoproject.com The Light Bulb Conspiracy uncovers how planned obsolescence has shaped our lives and economy since the 1920's, when manufacturers deliberately started shortening the life of consumer products to increase demand. The film also profiles a new generation of consumers, designers and business people who have started challenging planned obsolescence as an unsustainable economic driver. The documentary begins by visiting the longest running light bulb in the world, which has burned continuously for over 110 years in Livermore, California. Initially, light bulbs were built to last. But the film finds historical evidence revealing how a cartel in the 1920's decided to produce bulbs limited to a maximum life of 1000 hours, making the humble light bulb one of the first examples of planned obsolescence and a model for increasing profits on other products. Shot over three years in Europe, the US and Ghana, The Light Bulb Conspiracy investigates the evolution and impact of planned obsolescence through interviews with historians, economists, designers and manufacturers, along with archival footage and internal company documents. The film profiles several well-known historical advocates -- Bernard London, who famously proposed ending the Great Depression by mandating planned obsolescence, and Brook Stevens, whose post-war ideas became the gospel of the 1950's and helped shape the throwaway consumer society of today. The Light Bulb Conspiracy also ...

Marshall mcluhan interview 1967

Marshall McLuhan Interview 1967
Marshall McLuhan :1911 1980 was a Canadian educator, a professor of English literature, and perhaps one of the best known media theorists and critics of this era. A literary scholar from Canada, Marshall McLuhan became entrenched in American popular culture when he felt this was the only way to understand his students at the University of Wisconsin. Until the publication of his best known and most popular works, The Gutenberg Galaxy: the Making of Typographic Man (1962) and Understanding Media: the Extensions of Man (1964), McLuhan lead a very ordinary academic life. Marshall McLuhan Quotes: Canada is the only country in the world that knows how to live without an identity. Marshall McLuhan Jokes are grievances. Marshall McLuhan Obsolescence never meant the end of anything, it's just the beginning. Marshall McLuhan Television brought the brutality of war into the comfort of the living room. Vietnam was lost in the living rooms of America - not on the battlefields of Vietnam. Marshall McLuhan We drive into the future using only our rearview mirror. Marshall McLuhan In this electronic age we see ourselves being translated more and more into the form of information, moving toward the technological extension of consciousness. Marshall McLuhan

Glenn beck and the coming economic collapse

Glenn Beck and the Coming Economic Collapse
The voice of one crying in the wilderness...GB may be our most prophetic voice challenging the hype, hypocrisy and hooliganism in Washingtoon. The only thing the bailout package that was passed yesterday is going to stimulate is our slide into the abyss of judgment. Thought: Christendom 1.0 (Rome, Byzantium) crashed and the Lord rebooted the computer with version 2.0 (which became Europe and North America). It is now crashing, hurtling towards obsolescence and the trash can. And soon Christendom 3.0 will be rolled out -- with servers likely located in the so-called developing world. His truth is marching on!

Revolve

revOlve
Winner of the Design Category in the 2010 University of Illinois International E-waste Competition Designers: Chandra Baker, Da Deng, Chris Platt, and Jason Schuler Objective: Create a product that addresses e-waste issues. Mobile phones are an increasing e-waste problem. Due to service providers and planned obsolescence, the average American replaces their mobile phone every 12-18 months, resulting in the disposal of over 150 million mobile phones annually. Over 400000 mobile phones are discarded daily. Most of which, still function properly. Our overall goals to improve the life-cycle of the product were to design a phone that was simple, timeless and intuitive to dissemble in order for more efficient recycling and disposal. In addition, we wanted to create a way of updatability and sense of emotional attachment to the phone in order to increase the length of its use. We decided to embellish on the idea of emotional attachment through the use of play. The ring in the phone creates a point of interest and provides the proper geometry for a human powered induction generator that charges the phone when spun around your finger. The generator would require a significant enough of an investment that the user would be encouraged to replace the hardware cartridge to update their cell phone instead of discarding the entire thing and buying a new one. The mode of disassembly is designed to be intuitive and non-threatening to the user in order introduce familiarity with the ...

New city stage company pterodactyls preview

New City Stage Company Pterodactyls preview
From Philadelphia scribe Nicky Silver comes a hilarious and touching comedy of despair about a Main Line clan and the demise of an entire class of American culture. The Duncan family is teetering on the brink of obsolescence. Patriarch Arthur replaces family memories with delusions of grandeur while his alcoholic wife Grace anesthetizes herself with social frivolities and mindless chatter. Their hypochondriac daughter Emma attempts to escape with her orphaned fiancé Tommy, who buries regrets in cinematic fantasies. Enter Todd: the prodigal son returned from five years of suicidal promiscuity with HIV and a chip on his shoulder. Todd resurrects the skeleton of a dinosaur found in their backyard as his family falls to pieces around him. Can we, as Americans, find ways to adapt in an increasingly complex world, or like our prehistoric predecessors have we outlived our usefulness? An absurdist black comedy that is undeniably clever and unapologetically apocalyptic. Starring Barrymore Award winners: Cheryl Williams, Bruce Graham and Jered McLenigan Also featuring: Kevin Meehan and Ginger Dayle

Brooks Stevens 1911-1995 Designer SelMcKenzie Selzer-McKenzie
Brooks Stevens 1911-1995 Designer SelMcKenzie Selzer-McKenzie Author D.Selzer-McKenzie Clifford Brooks Stevens (June 7, 1911-January 4, 1995) was an American industrial designer of home furnishings, appliances, automobiles and motorcycles — as well as a graphic designer and stylist. In 1944, along with Raymond Loewy and eight others, Stevens formed the Industrial Designers Society of America.[1] On his death in 1995, the New York Times called Stevens a "a major force in industrial design."[1] Stevens was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on June 7, 1911. Stricken with polio as a child, Stevens was encouraged by his father to practice drawing while confined to his bed, perhaps motivating his career in design. He studied architecture at Cornell University from 1929 to 1933, and established his own home furnishings design firm in 1934 in Milwaukee.[2] His son, Kipp Stevens, ran the Brooks Stevens Design Associates until late 2008 when he stepped down. In 1959, Brooks opened a 12500sf automotive museum in Mequon, Wisconsin, which became a repository for his own designs as well as others—and became a production facility in the late 1980s for the Wienermobile fleet. The museum closed in 1999, four years after his death.[3] Brooks Stevens died on January 4, 1995, in Milwaukee—survived by his wife Alice, sons Kipp, William and David, a daughter Sandra A. Stevens, and five grandchildren.[1] [edit] Planned obsolescence Though he is often cited[citation needed] with inventing the ...

From citizen to consumer: the war on you

From Citizen To Consumer: The War On You
Edward Bernays, Sigmund Freud's nephew, used psychological theories to manipulate Americans in the 20th Century. ...The American business community was also very impressed with the [war] propaganda effort. They had a problem at that time. The country was becoming formally more democratic. A lot more people were able to vote and that sort of thing. The country was becoming wealthier and more people could participate and a lot of new immigrants were coming in, and so on. So what do you do? It's going to be harder to run things as a private club. Therefore, obviously, you have to control what people think. There had been public relation specialists but there was never a public relations industry. There was a guy hired to make Rockefeller's image look prettier and that sort of thing. But this huge public relations industry, which is a US invention and a monstrous industry, came out of the first World War. The leading figures were people in the Creel Commission. In fact, the main one, Edward Bernays, comes right out of the Creel Commission. He has a book that came out right afterwards called Propaganda. The term "propaganda," incidentally, did not have negative connotations in those days. It was during the second World War that the term became taboo because it was connected with Germany, and all those bad things. But in this period, the term propaganda just meant information or something like that. So he wrote a book called Propaganda around 1925, and it starts off by saying ...

Lockheed hudson iiia

Lockheed Hudson IIIA
The Lockheed Hudson was a military version of the American Lockheed 14 Super Electra airliner and was ordered for the Royal Air Force in June 1938. Hudsons entered service with Coastal Command in 1939. Used extensively over United Kingdom waters on anti-submarine and general reconnaissance duties, Hudsons were also used overseas. When Hudsons reached obsolescence in the maritime role they were stripped of their armament and re-employed as transports. Some of these aircraft were used in the very hazardous task of carrying Allied agents into and out of Nazi-occupied Europe. Although never in the forefront of wartime publicity the Hudson can nevertheless claim an impressive list of firsts including: * The first Allied aircraft to shoot down an enemy while operating from the British Isles. * The first aircraft to capture a U-boat. U-570 surrendered to a No.269 Squadron Hudson on 27 August 1941. * The first aircraft equipped to carry airborne lifeboats for air sea rescue duties. The RAF received just over 2000 Hudsons, 800 of which were purchased, the remainder supplied under American Lend-Lease contracts. Grace rasmussen & joe anderson talk about 203k benefits

Grace Rasmussen & Joe Anderson Talk About 203K Benefits
As many home shoppers learn, the best buy in town is often what real estate agents call a "fixer-upper;" a home in need of repair in a nice neighborhood; or an older home with lots of charm, but in need of updating in the kitchen and bathrooms. With limited funds, you may worry about whether you can afford the expense of renovations after you've closed your loan. One option to consider is New American Mortgage's FHA 203(k) loan. Home improvement loans, such as the FHA 203(k) loan, can make that real estate bargain even more attractive, because it allows you to purchase a home and improve it all with one transaction. The remodeling costs are built into the loan and the loan amount is based on the "after-improved" value of the home. The extent of the rehabilitation may range from relatively minor repairs to adding additional living space. The types of improvements that are permissible with New American Mortgage's FHA 203(k) program include the following: • Structural alterations and reconstruction. • Modernization and improvements to the home's function. • Changes that improve appearance and eliminate obsolescence. • Painting interior and/or exterior walls. • Reconditioning or replacing plumbing fixtures. • Adding new appliances. • Installing a new well and/or septic system. • Adding or replacing roofing, gutter, and/or downspouts. • Adding or replacing floors and/or floor treatments. • Making energy conservation improvements (doors and windows). You can purchase your dream ...

Oliver antique super 77 tractor pink hill north carolina

Oliver Antique Super 77 Tractor Pink Hill North Carolina
The Oliver Farm Equipment Company was an American farm equipment manufacturer from the 20th century. It was formed as a the result of a 1929 merger of four companies:[1] the American Seeding Machine Company of Richmond, Indiana, Oliver Chilled Plow Works of South Bend, Indiana, Hart-Parr Tractor Company of Charles City, Iowa, and Nichols and Shepard Company of Battle Creek, Michigan On November 1, 1960, the White Motor Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Oliver Farm Equipment Company.[2] Its patents are owned by AGCO Four companies joined forces on April 1, 1929. The Oliver Chilled Plow Company dated from 1855. Hart-Parr Tractor Company began operations in 1897, and the American Seeding Machine Company, dated back to 1848. Nichols and Shepard Company, likewise began operations in 1848. By 1929, each of these companies had essentially outgrown its usefulness to the industry. For most of them, the market had some time earlier reached a saturation point. In some instances, their machines were badly dated and rapidly approaching obsolescence. For each of these companies to have attempted further activity on solo basis would almost have certainly been disastrous. By uniting their various and somewhat diverse product lines into a single company, Oliver Farm Equipment instantly became a virtual full-line manufacturer. The American Seeding Machine Company was organized in 1903 from the a merger of seven different manufacturers of grain drills, corn planters and other ...

Eventually Santa became a beloved friend of the kids, the medical doctors and staff members of the children hospital. 2 years ago (Xmas 2007) Santa was named as the Goodwill Ambassador of the Children of the Hospital. The hospital is currently in a need of lots of medical equipments due to the obsolescence issues of its biotechnological equipments. Most medical equipments have not been renewed for 20 years, so the situation is critical. Lives are sometimes lost. Santa decided to do all he possible could to help out. Since the needs are huge over 10 million US dollars in new equipment he started an international campaign to ask the ambassadors of nations friends of El Salvador to join Santa in his effort. The first thing Santa did was to visit the UNICEF office in El Salvador to request recommendations how to go about his new undertaking. UNICEF promised Santa to do everything possible to assist his noble cause. The international agency dedicated to the care for children and children issues world-wide, assumed the important marketing effort of this campaign in order to contact ...

Lsdecomposition # 9 (moog practice!)

LSDecomposition # 9 (MOOG practice!)
CXB whips out his ancient Moog for some practice! .......paid $150 for it in 1991, and due to his 20 years of being falsely arrested, jailed, and tortured by Giuliani and Bloomberg, has only been able to use the moog maybe 10 hours in those 20 years! Sure don't help that CXB's "friends" also did thousands of shady or illegal things to steal from him and ruin his life and jail him, to ensure he couldn't work on art or music! HUMANS ARE THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. If you haven't figured that out yet, YOU WILL! Recently, CXB did a 60 minute improvised guitar extravaganza and his NEW Macbook Pro CRASHED and lost it all, because that's how Corporate America rolls: "planned obsolescence" means, "we can build pieces of shit designed to fall apart, and force it upon the little people, cuz the politicians are in our pocket." Steve Jobs is a great technology man like Reagan was a great president (wrong) and Bloomturd is a great mayor (wrong). Generally, whatever society believes is the complete opposite of reality. [author sure hopes the world ends soon...] oh yeah: CXB is an amateur synthesist, and he's never been able to really get to use this Moog much. He gets some nice stuff outta it though! (EX: during the LSD melody, he's flicking the octave switch thru 3 octaves with his left hand while playing the keyboard with his right.)

Peak oil lie & the threat of globalisation

Peak Oil Lie & The Threat of Globalisation
Apparently the idea that oil and coal were the product of fossil remains of ancient life was a theory that somebody came up with in something like 1857 and it has never been challenged or examined since then. The only foundation for it was the fact when you are mining coal you will see fossils in the coal seam. It was simply assumed that the plants that had produced those fossil imprints in the coal were the source of the coal itself. Maybe / Maybe not... maybe there was a layer of fossil debris that had been covered over and petroleum bubbled up into it, saturated it, soaked it, and over time it simply hardened... because that is all that coal really is. Petroleum that has hardened. It may well be that there is a lot more down there because there have been a lot of oil fields that have been emptied out, but people would come back later and they are filling up again. Now they are starting to drill oil from layers in the earth that are older than life on earth. The only thing that is down there are these microbes that seem to produce vast amounts of methane... methane + heat and pressure makes the long chain hydrocarbons that are petroleum. Of course, they are not going to admit it because if oil is everywhere and easy to get, then we expect oil prices to go down and in the USA we're constantly being told its scarce. Business in the entire west boost their profits by convincing you that goods that are actually available in unlimited supply are rare and limited. One of the ...

World creditors triptych

World Creditors Triptych
This is neither a yea or nay for the major finance companies offering the lending and credit solutions for our judicious and advancing planet. It may well be messaging used in their own institutions to raise employee moral, or it could be a mantra for any individual to understand the obsolescence of these banking organizations.

Michael moore on gm bankruptcy: "we own a car company"

Michael Moore on GM Bankruptcy:
"We need to protect our industrial infrastructure, as I've said many times before, so that we are using these factories to built the things that we need -- bullet trains, light rail, alternative energy, cleaner buses -- things that society needs in the 21st century. ... We have to kill GM in order to save it. ... They've planned their own obsolescence by helping to destroy the middle class ..." -- Michael Moore on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Monday, June 1st, 2009

Ampicillin-resistant proteus mirabilis: outpatient

Ampicillin-resistant Proteus mirabilis: Outpatient
Proteus mirabilis is a member of the Enterobacteriaceae family of bacteria, along with E. coli and K. pneumoniae, which together account for the vast majority of community-acquired urinary tract infections (UTIs). This series shows the rising resistance rates in outpatient settings of P. mirabilis to ampicillin, a penicillin-related drug that can be prescribed to treat complicated UTIs. Whereas the drug was a preferred treatment in the 1980s, the rise in resistance has now restricted its use primarily to pregnant women. The video shows a gradual but steady upward climb of P. mirabilis resistance to ampicillin, particularly affecting the New England and the West South Central divisions. Over the period, resistance spreads from the middle of the country to the periphery. In 2000, most regions report rates below 15%, but by 2009, West South Central, East South Central and New England experience resistance rates greater than 25%. Even though susceptibility of P. mirabilis to most major antibiotics (tetracyclines excluded) remains high, strains producing enzymes that confer resistance to ampicillin are becoming more frequent in North America and Europe. However, the maps illustrate something more than the increasing obsolescence of ampicillin alone. The emergence of these enzymes is cause for concern because they confer resistance not only to beta-lactams (illustrated here) but also to sulfonamides (such as trimethoprim-sulfa) and other first-line therapies for UTIs. The ...

For tex, lambdog76 and whoever else...

for Tex, lambdog76 and whoever else...
My response to TGO's video: TGO - The Value of American's Dollar! www.youtube.com Let me clarify my statements regarding an ideal or merely better future world. I am not some anti-technology ludite. I believe that technological development ought to be unsuppressed; as well, the practice of planned-obsolescence ought be outlawed. Social stratification would also still exist, it just wouldn't be as pronounced. Without a doubt, the best of 19th century life can be combined with the best the 21st century has to offer. As it stands now, under the current system, life for the vast majority of people is sure to get worse. It's time to stop pretending. And of course, I'm not advocating for mine fields along the southern border.

Learning technologies 2012 - jaron lanier - the rise of post-human machine intelligence?

Learning Technologies 2012 - Jaron Lanier - The rise of post-human machine intelligence?
Are we at the beginning of the rise of post-human machine intelligence? Jaron Lanier In this opening to the second day of the conference, Jaron Lanier sounds both an alarm and a rallying cry. The author of the widely acclaimed 'You are not a Gadget' will discuss the insidious effects of technology, information and networks and will explore the impact of today's digital technologies and how they are not all they appear to be. Wealth and power now accrue to those who own the computers that can collect the most information over networks, whether they are running hedge funds, search engines, social networks, or spy agencies. This new order doesn't create middle class jobs, so the whole world is devolving into a plutocracy, courtesy of digital networks. If the phenomenon is to be understood as a rise of machine intelligence, then we are entering into the fabled obsolescence of human labour foreseen by a century of science fiction and Marxist writers. Or, maybe what's happened is that we've tricked ourselves into not noticing that there is actually a new kind of precious human labour that makes the new wealth possible. If people were paid for their role in feeding data into the networks, then a middle class could exist even in a future in which machines get better and better. The man who coined the term 'virtual reality', Jaron Lanier is a true polymath: philosopher, artist and computer scientist with a collection of over 700 musical instruments. His writing can be found in the ...
