Occupy Wall Street Movement Reports 80 Arrested Today in Protests - Brutal Tactics At least 80 people were arrested on Wall Street today in the eighth day of protests against corporations, according to the group Occupy Wall St, which reported police used tasers and mace to control the crowd today. The New York Police Department could not confirm how many arrests had been made because they were still being processed, a spokesman said. A video has circulated of a police officer throwing a protestor to the ground. The reason for the violence is unknown -- the video shows the man standing in what seems to be a non-threatening manner before the attack. Another video shows police officers shoving male and female protestors off the street, and using a large orange net to move the crowd. The group claimed today on its website that several arrested protestors were locked inside a police van this morning, one with a "possibly life-threatening" concussion. The website reported at least one protestor was arrested for taking photographs. An NYPD spokesman said police were not targeting those with cameras. Photographs that did make it into the blogosphere showed signs that read, "A Few Prosper, Billions Suffer," and "Debt = Slavery." The protests began on Sept. 17, when hundreds of protestors gathered at Bowling Green Park in Manhattan, home of the iconic charging bull in New York's Financial District, as they prepared to "take the bull by the horns," as a flyer advertising the event ... These institutions have also made the ideas of liberty more available and have created and facilitated networks that enable people to share and strengthen their ideas. Broadly speaking, there are two types of advocates. There are those who advocate policies for their own self-interest and there are also those who advocate polices on principle. The second group tends to benefit society most effectively, but in order to enact change, must overpower the incentives of the first group. This is a difficult task, as the first group derives concentrated benefits to themselves by dispersing costs on everyone else through the political process. Luckily, there are historical examples of the principled advocacy groups defeating the vested interests of the rent seekers. The most obvious example is the campaign against the slave trade in Britain and France in the late 18th and early 19th century. Despite the large interests of those employing slave labor, the principled advocates abolished slavery. It is often claimed that the liberty movement is a self-interested right-wing conspiracy. Occupy europe: thousands march in germany & spain

Thousands staged demonstrations against the power of banks and for greater democracy in German cities on Saturday, while several thousand Spanish teachers and parents marched in the capital Madrid to protest against austerity measures. In Berlin the second edition of the so-called 'Occupy Berlin' protest against the financial system drew several hundred demonstrators to a march which ended at the Reichstag building, Germany's parliament, on Saturday afternoon. Protesters chanted slogans against banks as they walked past Berlin landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate. After the massive turnout at anti-bank protests last weekend, Berlin police were out in force this Saturday but no serious incidents were reported. A similar demonstration was held in Frankfurt, where several thousand people protested against the power of the banks and for greater democracy. The demonstration was organised by 'Occupy Frankfurt' and the international pro-democracy, anti-globalisation movement 'attac'. The participants marched from the centre of Frankfurt to the European Central Bank building, and a rally was held in front of the Deutsche Bank building. As another accomplice stood guard, he hung up a banner denouncing North Korean leader Kim Jong Il in bright red paint. Then he took out a video camera, disguised to look like a carton of cigarettes, and filmed his handiwork for posterity. Today, the North Korean who says he shot the video on behalf of a group called the Freedom Youth League lives in hiding in Thailand under an assumed name.
