Discussed are the origins of prison in torture and public spectacle, its inversion into modern incarceration models, and the morphing of the carceral model into one which reflects the dominant economic value system - profit before intended function, and its resulting violent social costs. Additionally, prison's effects upon non-criminals (including guards) are detailed in order to demonstrate the system's wholly undermining effects upon social integrity, regardless of criminality. Re: charlie veitch

A video response to Slaxxxer's video "Charlie Veitch", about his recent turn against the 9/11 conspiracy and how the movement are reacting to it. Slaxxxer's video: www.youtube.com What I didn't get to say at the end is that every group or movement has its flaws (because human beings are always flawed.) Like almost any other movement, the Truth Movement has its fools and crazy people. The few who are threatening Charlie Veitch do not speak for the Truth Movement, any more than a few anarchists throwing stones speak for a large group of protestors fighting for peace. No group or movement is ever perfect, because they're made of flawed human beings. At least the Truth Movement is about truth, and I think that many of the revolutions and protests around the world are happening because of secret information being made public. Charlie Veitch has announced that he is making a documentary to explore his turnaround and the reaction of the Truth Movement. I hope that he will make this documentary with honesty, just asking questions (as we've come to expect from him.) If he were to turn on the Truth Movement (as recent comments of his do seem to indicate) he could do some real damage to how the public sees the movement. Like I said above, the hateful actions of some do not speak for the majority. At any rate, for those who are telling him off or threatening him, you are only hurting the movement. Dr. Angela Davis addresses the satellite Occupy Wall Street general assembly--Occupy Washington Square Park NYC--encouraging the movement to stay united (3:20) by quoting Audre Lorde, "Differences must not be merely tolerated, but seen as a fund of necessary polarities between which our creativity can spark like a dialectic" (4:24). At the end of the speech, Davis brings news from Occupy Oakland--in regards to the police action, and Scott Olsen --and Oakland's call for a general strike on November 2, 2011 (6:14).
