Azerbaijan forced evictions -- eurovision, oil, and corruption

The Baku mayor's office began the expropriation campaign in 2009 to build a "garden-park complex" among other construction projects, as part of a "reconstruction" program. Human Rights Watch interviewed numerous property owners whose properties in Baku have been expropriated and demolished or soon will be. [Incidents] began after the owners and tenants of a building slated for demolition painted a message on the exterior walls: "This is private property and the destruction of this house violates the Constitution, and the European Convention on Human Rights." The police demanded that they stop writing on the walls and dispersed only after several representatives of diplomatic missions came to the aid of the tenants. In numerous cases in various sections of the city center, residents said that the authorities have begun to tear down apartment buildings while property owners who refused to agree to the government's compensation or resettlement offers remained in their apartments. In some of these cases, court cases challenging the demolitions and expropriations were pending. One woman told Human Rights Watch that the authorities removed the roof of a three-storey apartment building, forcing out residents of the third floor, then several months later returned to force out apartment owners on the first and second floors. Azerbaijan forced evictions -- violation of property rights

This video presents a complete report and timeline of events. The government of Azerbaijan has forcibly evicted homeowners and demolished their homes for urban development projects in the capital of Baku. Dozens of families have been evicted from the neighborhood where the arena for the May 2012 Eurovision Song Contest is being built. Human Rights Watch has documented the authorities' illegal expropriation of properties and forcible evictions of dozens of families in four Baku neighborhoods, at times without warning or in the middle of the night. The authorities subsequently demolished homes, sometimes with residents' possessions inside. The government has refused to provide homeowners fair compensation for the properties, many of which are in highly desirable locations even though Azerbaijani law stipulates that market value should be paid in compensation for a forced sale. In many cases, including in the National Flag Square area, the government has cut services or begun dismantling apartment buildings in which some residents remained. Bernanke was forced to sit down and listen as Ron Paul scolded him for "debasing" the currency and "destroying" the wealth of millions of Americans. Ron Paul first asked Bernanke if he did his own grocery shopping, to which the Fed Chairman responded with a "yes." Paul immediately said "no one believes the 2% inflation rate," claiming it was actually closer to 9%. "Someone is stealing wealth," said Ron Paul. Do not believe the propaganda by the Zionist controlled mass media and the two-party system. The John Birch Society has been advocating for a constitutional government since its founding in 1958. They are defenders of freedoms and libertarian values although they have no political party affiliation. If we ignore the religious aspects, this may be among the best documentaries that explain, civil rights, the American government, and its intended economic system of a free market economy in simple, plain, and inspiring language. Topics covered are constitution, bill of rights, forms of government, political systems, collectivism (socialism), free market, competition, capital, property, the differences between a democracy and a republic, and the role of government in a free society. However we should also ignore the strawman it creates for anarchism. It must be illustrated in the proper context because if it is not, it is defined under the framework of government where it does not belong. Hence, an anarchist society as described by critics would be contaminated by a public brainwashed by questionable values and immersed in bad economic conditions such as poverty, unemployment, and regression that the state itself propagated. Such line of reasoning is therefore invalid. This is analogous to using circular logic to defend a religious doctrine. Black supremacists appear in denver court

Nine suspects accused of racially motivated attacks in and around downtown Denver made their first court appearances Wednesday. In some of the cases the suspects are accused of taking part in assaults and robberies that were part of gang initiations. Alexander Bunting is among those accused of taking part in such an initiation. He is charged in connection with an incident that occurred at 17th and Market in September in which a 24-year-old man suffered a skull fracture. Also advised before a judge Wednesday were Christopher Rodney and Landae Woods-King. Both are charged with assaults and robbery in separate cases. These are among the two dozen or so cases that are expected to be filed with charges in the coming days involving assaults that occurred in and around the downtown and LoDo areas over the past four months.
