Libertarian philosophy

Libertarian Philosophy
"Libertarianism is, as the name implies, the belief in liberty. Libertarians believe that each person owns his own life and property, and has the right to make his own choices as to how he lives his life - as long as he simply respects the same right of others to do the same." "Libertarianism promotes a society where no one is the first to harm (strike, defraud, steal from) another. If someone fails to obey this one-and-only law, then he or she must make things right again with the one who is harmed. The only legitimate use of force is self-defense. Basically, libertarianism is a restatement of how we learned to get along with each other as youngsters. We honor our neighbors' choices, and they honor ours. We don't start fights and only fight back when attacked. We try to make right any wrongs that we do. Simple, isn't it?" www.libertarianism.com www.libertarianism.com Libertarian Party website: www.lp.org

Philosopher matt zwolinski on "bleeding-heart libertarians," the poor, and social justice

Philosopher Matt Zwolinski on
"Libertarians ... when they try to convince people of libertarianism, they do it by talking about the way in which free markets make life better for the poor," says Matt Zwolinski, a philosopher at the University of San Diego and a creator of the web site Bleeding Heart Libertarians. While the notion of "social justice" has long been anathema to some libertarians, Zwolinski says that a bleeding-heart libertarian realizes that an abiding concern for the most vulnerable in society is an essential part of any moral political system. "But, simply being committed to social justice does not mean that you have to be committed to the view that government must directly try to promote the well-being of the poor and vulnerable members of society," says Zwolinski. Instead, the bleeding-heart libertarian looks at the empirical evidence and accepts that small government and free markets are the best methods by which to provide for the poor. Interview by Zach Weissmueller. Shot by Paul Feine. Edited by Weissmueller. Approximately 10 minutes. (visit Bleeding Heart Libertarians at bleedingheartlibertarians.com). The philosophy of liberty

The Philosophy of Liberty
When you hear Ron Paul say that he stands for the Philosophy of Liberty, this is what he means. The philosophy of liberty is based on self-ownership. This simple but elegant and hard-hitting animation will explain exactly what that means. It's a great tool anyone can use to educate children and adults about our right to life, liberty, and the property we create - and our responsibility to think, speak and act. How Obama Revived the Freedom Movement: John J. Pitney, Jr. on the libertarian electorate
"The greatest gift to the libertarian electorate was the Obama administration," says John J. Pitney, Jr., a professor of government at Claremont McKenna College and a Reason contributing editor. "At a time when you have massive expansion of government power and massive government spending, people start to see the downsides of that philosophy and the libertarian philosophy starts to become more appealing." Pitney also tells Reason.tv why Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) energized so many voters during the 2008 election and whether America would ever elect a libertarian president. Approximately 6.45 minutes. Christopher hitchens on libertarianism, garth brooks, and wayne's world (1992 - part 9)

Christopher Hitchens on Libertarianism, Garth Brooks, and Wayne's World (1992 - Part 9)
March 23, 1992 www.amazon.com Watch the full program: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com Libertarianism is a political theory that advocates the maximization of individual liberty in thought and action and the minimization or even abolition of the state. Libertarians embrace viewpoints ranging from a minimal state (or minarchist) to anarchist. Libertarians have a variety of views on natural resources and property rights to which the terms "left" and "right" often are applied. Some libertarians reject being described as "left" or "right." Libertarianism is not a complete moral or aesthetic theory; it is only a political theory, that is, the subset of moral theory that deals with the proper role of violence in social life. Troyal Garth Brooks (born February 7, 1962), best known as Garth Brooks, is an American country music artist. His eponymous first album was released in 1989 and peaked at #2 in the US country album chart while climbing to #13 on the Billboard 200 pop album chart. Brooks's integration of rock elements into his recordings and live performances has earned him immense popularity. This progressive approach allowed him to dominate the country single and album charts while quickly crossing over into the mainstream pop arena, exposing country music to a larger audience. Wayne's World is a 1992 comedy film starring Mike Myers as Wayne Campbell and Dana Carvey as Garth Algar, hosts of the Aurora, Illinois-based cable access television show Wayne's World. Ron paul is a voluntarist

Ron Paul is a Voluntarist
-- Description -- Ron Paul has re-ignited the spark for liberty in the United States and around the world. He has generated unprecedented interest in libertarian philosophy and sound Austrian economics. The modern libertarian movement, founded by Murray Rothbard, opposes the initiation of force by anyone. In this way, modern libertarians go further than the classical liberals, who accepted the initiation of force by the State, believing taxation to be necessary for security. This position is known by various names including voluntar[y]ism, self-government, anarcho-capitalism, market anarchism, and libertarian anarchism. In this video, using Ron Paul's own words from his books and interviews, it is shown that Ron Paul's goal is voluntarism. He adopts limited-government positions and appeals to the US Constitution as part of a long-term strategy for achieving a completely free society, absent any State. -- Links -- www.VforVoluntary.com http www.ManAgainstTheState.blogspot.com -- Sources -- Listed at http

RON PAUL REVOLUTION: A Manifesto // PART 1
ON HUMAN FREEDOM AND THE DIGNITY OF MAN every revolution needs its manifesto. ron paul tells us that we must change our philosophy of the proper role of government in our lives. most people don't realize how radical his libertarianism really is, and how it targets the real centers of power in our society. in this manifesto, i seek to elaborate on paul's libertarian philosophy and give it voice, in a time of rampant monopolistic capitalism and state socialism when it is so desperately needed. i contrast two fundamental conceptions of human nature--one based on the enlightenment belief in the dignity of man, and one based on the irrational Freudian unconscious--and show their political and social consequences. please click on my profile to view the other two parts.

Social Theory of Hoppe, Week 1: Property Foundations
This six-week course will present and discuss Professor Hoppe's most important ideas and theories, including his brilliant critique of positivist methodology as applied to the social sciences, his groundbreaking "argumentation ethics" praxeological approach to political philosophy, his encompassing comparative analysis of socialism and capitalism, his profound critique of democracy, and a host of other insights and contributions to areas such as monopoly theory, the theory of public goods, the sociology of taxation, the private production of security, immigration, the nature of property and scarcity, economic methodology and epistemology, and the evolution of monetary institutions and their impact on international relations. This course will be taught by Austro-libertarian legal philosopher Stephan Kinsella, who has been a close associate of Professor Hoppe for 17 years. Kinsella is uniquely qualified to teach this course, as he served as Book Review Editor of the JLS for five years under Hoppe's editorship; he founded and edits Libertarian Papers, the successor journal to the JLS; and, with Guido Hülsmann, was editor of the festschrift in Hoppe's honor, Property, Freedom, and Society: Essays in Honor of Hans-Hermann Hoppe (Mises Institute, 2009).
