Don't include too much in your list - add things in as you go to avoid demoralisation. 2. Make a timetable This may not be for everyone but if you're someone who likes to set yourself specific times for tasks this can be very useful. 3. Be Realistic This is especially important if you're going to make a timetable - don't give yourself too much to do. Don't go over 45 minutes when working and make sure to have regular (but sort) breaks. 4. Keep distractions to a minimum Keep computers turned off if you don't need it - facebook is off limits! Also if you can bare not having your mobile phone I'd suggest putting it in a different room - if not then at least put it on silent :) 5. Organise your work space Don't spend hours cleaning up but just make sure that the area your working in is clear and uncluttered. Make sure you have a sufficient amount of light and open up a window. 6. Get provisions Water is a must have and possibly something to snack on -- preferably not carbs as they will make you feel sluggish and tired. Fruits great -- it's good for you and the fresh flavours will keep you more alert. 7. Indentify your own learning style! Mexican polyglot speaks English, Spanish, Polish, French, Catalan, Romanian, Portuguese, German, Dutch, Latin & Italian. I hope this video inspires others to study languages and learn about other cultures. Thanks for watching! Here is the amount of time I had been speaking each language at the time I made the video; English-21 yrs, Polish-2 yrs, French-10 yrs, Catalan-3 yrs, Romanian-4 yrs, Portuguese-3 yrs, German-4 yrs, Dutch-2 months, Latin-4 months, Italian-11 yrs. Spanish is my native language and I learned English as a child when I moved to the United States. I remained bilingual until high school where I learned Italian and French. Then in college I took classes to learn Polish, German, Portuguese & Catalan. I only took one course for each language and afterwards I continued studying on my own with the help of friends that were native speakers of each language. During college I also taught myself Romanian by listening to music. I translated song lyrics and I started forming my own original sentences based on the structures I heard in the songs. Later on I also used a grammar book to learn full conjugations of all the different verbs. I studied Romanian for a year before I finally had a chance to practice it with native Romanian speakers. Besides Romanian, only Latin & Dutch have also been entirely self-taught with the help of music and literature. *I recently arrived Mexico where I am currently studying Nahuatl. *Very soon I would also like to learn Russian ... Toefl speaking question 1 (9 samples)

This video is proposing 9 practice tasks for the FIRST question in the speaking section of the TOEFL IBT. You will also find sample responses for each of the tasks. These were included with the original CD. If anything, these samples can teach you the format of a good response. But don't let yourself be discouraged by the quality of their language and content. You will only have 15 seconds to prepare and I'm sure these guys took hours to write those samples... So the judges don't expect this kind of quality. But what they do expect is the level of organization they display. So when preparing your response, make sure you respect the following pattern 1: A Clear Topic Statement 2: 2 reasons to hold your opinion 3: Details and examples for each of your reasons. 4: A concise concluding statement... (example: those are the reasons I believe... kind of thing) With that in mind, you should be able to get a good score for this question at least. That is if your grammar and vocabulary is good... of course. Secrets of body language

Body language is a form of non-verbal communication, which consists of body posture, gestures, facial expressions, and eye movements. Humans send and interpret such signals almost entirely subconsciously. John Borg attests that human communication consists of 93 percent body language and paralinguistic cues, while only 7% of communication consists of words themselves;[1] however, Albert Mehrabian, the researcher whose 1960s work is the source of these statistics, has stated that this is a misunderstanding of the findings[2] (see Misinterpretation of Mehrabian's rule). Others assert that "Research has suggested that between 60 and 70 percent of all meaning is derived from nonverbal behavior."[3] Body language may provide clues as to the attitude or state of mind of a person. For example, it may indicate aggression, attentiveness, boredom, relaxed state, pleasure, amusement, and intoxication, among many other cues.
