Part of the 2011 GSB Entrepreneurship Conference. The most successful entrepreneurs are very deliberat in the company cultures they envision and how that culture is developed and reinforced. Beyond creating a unique place to work and enabling the company to recruit talent, a company's culture can provide a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Tangram company culture

Tangram Company Culture
Tangram's executive team recently provided some insight into the foundation of the company's culture; specifically their observations of the attributes that are most apparent when Tangram is at its best. It takes leadership to express cultural expectations, but the everyday actions, behaviors and results that our employees deliver truly define and create our culture. An important part of a strong and successful business is possessing a corporate culture that effectively represents the values and serves the goals of the organization. It is also essential a company's culture is unified, respected and admired by its employees and portrays an attractive perception by our customers of what we stand for and how we do business. Tangram has a vibrant and highly-regarded corporate culture. We've consistently done a lot of things well to earn this. One aspect of culture we aim to improve on is doing a better job communicating and promoting it - both internally and externally. With this in mind, we recently recorded this video to capture and communicate a deeper understanding of the Tangram culture. The video is one method to heighten awareness and promote our culture as an invaluable asset to be shared with our employees, business partners, customers and perspective clients.

Tedxpresidio - chip conley - superhuman or super human?

TEDxPresidio - Chip Conley - Superhuman or Super Human?
No hotel executive in the world has overseen the development and creation of more boutique hotels than Chip Conley, founder and CEO of Joie de Vivre, California's largest independent hotel company and America's second largest boutique hotelier. At the age of 26 with no industry experience, Chip transformed a seedy 1950's "no-tell motel" into the world-renowned Phoenix Hotel, a legendary rock 'n roll hotel catering to the likes of David Bowie, Linda Ronstadt and Little Richard. Inspired by the French expression for "joy of life," Chip created Joie de Vivre with the intention of developing what USA Today has called "the most delightfully schizophrenic collection of hotels in America." Recorded April 2, 2011 at The Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, San Francisco, California. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. Google innovation: culture and practices

Google Innovation: Culture and Practices
Speaker: Dan Russell, Research Scientist and Search Anthropologist, Google Abstract: As a company, Google clearly relies on innovation to keep our business alive and growing. Translating that desire into a continual innovation practice is central to the outlook and world-view that Google has as a corporate culture. Innovation isn't just for the futurists, but a part of what everyone in the company is expected to do on a day-to-day basis. People who work on internal processes, for example, are expected to be as innovative as engineers and product managers who drive externally visible products. Innovation isn't something that the company can just leave to a few bright minds, but is deeply embedded in the culture of the company. Beyond culture, though, there are a few pragmatic behaviors that help Google be innovative. A commonplace belief is that innovation originates with an identified market or user need. While we design for the user, we recognize that innovative ideas originate in many places—sometimes with user needs, but also occasionally from technology opportunities that suddenly become available. In these cases, the user need might not be clearly identified at the outset of research, but become evident only over time. Ultimately, of course, an innovation has to be user-relevant, but we understand that not everything starts that way. One of the key drivers of Google innovation is our focus on data-driven analytics of our products. We instrument just about everything ...

Project censored

Project Censored
visit coanews.org Project Censored is a national research effort launched in 1976 by Dr. Carl Jensen, professor emeritus of Communications Studies at Sonoma State University. Upon Jensen's retirement in 1996, leadership of the project was passed to associate professor of sociology and media research specialist, Dr. Peter Phillips. Under Phillips's guidance, Project Censored tracks the news published in independent journals and newsletters, and every year the group compiles an annual list of 25 news stories of social significance that have been overlooked, under-reported or self-censored by the country's major national news media. Veteran broadcaster Walter Cronkite said Project Censored "is one of the organization's we should listen to, to be assured that our newspapers and broadcasting outlets are practicing thorough and ethical journalism." Phillips says, "the restructuring of media in the United States is creating forms of censorship that are as potentially damaging as overt censorship." "Media corporations have been undergoing a massive merging process that is realigning our sources of information in America," Phillips wrote in a an op-ed recently. "Values such as freedom of information and belief in the responsibility of keeping the public informed are adjusted to reflect policies created by bottom-line oriented CEOs. Media owners and managers are motivated to please advertisers and upper-middle-class readers and viewers. Journalists and editors are not immune from ...

Quick trick to impress your interviewer

Quick Trick to Impress Your Interviewer
In this video I talk about how to structure some of the questions YOU ask your interviewer during your interview in order to impress them and show off the research you have done of their company. Use this structure with most questions you ask, but not with all of them as you don't want to overdo it. The structure of your questions should be as such: 1. Do your research on the company 2. Talk about one SAFE topic that you learned about the company prior to walking into your interview (ex. mentoring program, international rotation program, company culture, etc.). Make sure it is something your interviewer did not mention during your interview with him/her 3. Ask your interviewer about their thoughts on any of the topics you brought up in step 2. Ask your interviewer to tell you more about it Watch my other videos and subscribe to my channel!
