Google stock split to keep founders in control

www.euronews.com Google is changing the structure of its shares to ensure that the company's founders - Larry Page and Sergey Brin - maintain control. Each current share will be split into two and new stock being issued for employee compensations and acquisitions will have no voting power. The surprise decision, was unanimously approved by its board. It was announced as the world's leading internet search engine reported net income the equivalent of 2.2 billion euros in the first quarter - up 61 percent on the same period last year. Google executives said the company continued to gain ground with large advertisers during the first quarter, particularly for the display ads on its YouTube site and for mobile ads. However there was a worrying 12 percent drop in search advertising rates - the second consecutive quarterly decline. Analysts also expressed concerns over the pending acquisition of Motorola which will put Google in the hardware business - an area it has no experience in, with much lower profit margins than its online ad business. Admented reality - google glasses remixed with google ads

When I saw Google had somehow forgotten to include any ads in their Project Glass promotional video I just couldn't resist fixing that oversight for them. So here is my slightly more realistic version of Google's augmented reality glasses - now featuring contextual Google Ads! Of course I'm exaggerating a bit here for visual effect to mimic the modern web browsing experience. Google will probably not be this obvious with their interface but there's no question that the company will be gathering a massive amount of extremely personal data based on what you look at and for how long. The company may use this data mining to build even more detailed consumer profiles and/or sell über targeted ads. Because let's face it, Google is really just a massive advertising company at heart. Fun Fact: All of the AdWords used are actual Google ad returns found via Google searches based on the dialog, situation or setting in the original video. Yes "Music, Stop!" does actually return an ad asking if you would like to listen to music. Google really can't be too annoyed at this remix because after all I'm just putting Google Ads overtop of a Google video on Google's owned video hosting service. He also discusses the many struggles that bands face in today's music business. Overall, he seems very concerned by the lack of "great bands" since the 1970s. To him, they are few and far between and people are more likely to name Led Zeppelin as a great band instead of naming a more contemporary musical act. He also states that due to the mass commercialization of music, its cultural impact is no longer there since people cannot emotionally connect to something inauthentic. He also attributes the lack of progress in music and its forms of distribution (especially compared to movies) to the constricting and protective nature of record labels.
