2011 a wild year

The tracking stick

Went out for a day of tracking practice and I decided to make a tracking stick to show you all. I had really every weather under the sun. It was about 0 Celsius but most annoyingly there was a constant hard wind. So sorry for the sound cutting out sometimes. It seems to be very hard to film tracks in a way you too can see them if they are made on the ground without snow but I hope you get an idea anyway on how to use a tracking stick. Enjoy! Emergency wind shelter tarp setup

Leave no trace!

After half a year I remove my autumn shelter. I never leave unused shelters as a rule of principle. In that same context I show a little trick to get your coffee or cooking fire of the ground so it doesn't burn the soil. Breaking a blown away trail again

After some heavy winds and snow part of my trails are blown away. The best way to find and make them visible again is with a team of dogs. Join me and Erica on a great tour in fabulous weather. In friction fire a beaver is your friend

Basically as a training session I went out to make a friction fire from the materials I could find. So no prepared kits etc. In my neck of the woods that is pretty hard as we just do not have an abundance of suitable woods. Combine this with the fact that the snow is melting and everything is wet, especially the ground, and you may understand that the success rate of this is pretty low (unlike on your popular tv programs of course :-)) The moral of this story: Go where beavers are!
