Soyuz-u with progress m-67

Soyuz-U with Progress M-67
The Progress normally takes two days to reach the Space Station. The rendezvous and docking are both automated, although once the spacecraft is within 150 meters (492 feet) of the Station, the Russian Mission Control Center just outside Moscow and the Station crew monitor the approach and docking. The Progress uses an automated, radar-based system called Kurs to dock to the Station. The active portion of the Kurs is on the Progress and the passive equipment is on the Station. The Station crew can also dock the Progress using the TORU system, a backup remote control docking system in the Station's Zvezda Service Module. Once the Progress is filled with trash, usually a day before the launch of the next Progress vehicle, the Station crew closes the hatches and initiates the undocking process. Once the Progress has undocked, the vehicle's thrusters are fired to maneuver it into an orbit that will send it into the Earth's atmosphere, where it will burn up on re-entry over the Pacific Ocean.

Soyuz-U Rocket Launches Progress-45 (M-13M) ISS Resupply Spacecraft From Baikonur.wmv
This video covers the entire launch, from T-3 minutes through spacecraft separation. The unpiloted ISS Progress 45 cargo craft launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 6:11 am EDT Sunday. Less than nine minutes later, the Progress reached its preliminary orbit and deployed its solar arrays and navigational antennas. The Russian cargo craft is scheduled to dock with the International Space Station on Wednesday at 7:40 am It contains 2.8 tons of food, fuel and supplies for the Expedition 29 crew, including 1653 pounds of propellant, 110 pounds of oxygen and air, 926 pounds of water and 3108 pounds of spare parts, experiment hardware and other supplies. It replaces the trash-filled ISS Progress 42 cargo craft which undocked from the station's Pirs docking compartment Saturday. The unpiloted Progress 42, which arrived at the station in late April, was deorbited for a destructive re-entry into Earth's atmosphere a few hours after undocking. Once the station crew members have unloaded the cargo, Progress 45 will be filled with trash and station discards, then undocked from the station in late January. Following its departure, controllers in Mission Control, Moscow, will raise its orbit to 310 miles (500 kilometers) so that they can deploy a microsatellite called Chibis. Once the microsatellite is deployed, Progress 45 will be deorbited for a destructive re-entry into Earth's atmosphere. › Read more about Progress resupply vehicles On August 24 the ISS Progress 44 ...

Soyuz-u rocket failed to launch progress m-12m to the iss (hd)

Soyuz-U rocket FAILED to launch Progress M-12M to the ISS (HD)
August 24, 2011 - Baikonur Cosmodrome. A Soyuz-U rocket, carrying the Progress M-12M cargo ship bound to the International Space Station, ISS, lifted off from Site 1 in Baikonur into a cloudless sky on Wednesday at 17:00:08 Moscow Summer Time. The launch vehicle followed a standard ascent trajectory to reach the orbit with an inclination 51.6 degrees toward the Equator and the separation of the cargo ship from its rocket was expected at 17:09. However shortly after the launch, Russian space agency, Roskosmos, announced that a failure of the propulsion system on the third stage of the launch vehicle led to its premature emergency shutdown 325 seconds after a liftoff and the loss of the payload. The timing of the failure indicated that the engine on the third stage fired for less than a quarter of its planned duration.

Progress m-02m (33) succesfully launches atop soyuz-u rocket

Progress M-02M (33) succesfully launches atop Soyuz-U rocket
May 7, 2009 - Baikonur Cosmodrome. Flying atop a Russian Soyuz U booster, the Progress M-02M spacecraft rocketed away from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 1837 GMT (2:37 pm EDT). A preliminary orbit was achieved after a nine-minute ascent provided by the three-stage rocket. Onboard commands then extended the Progress craft's two power-generating solar arrays that span 35 feet and unfurled communications and navigation antennas. But instead of aiming for a docking with the station two days after launch, this freighter will spend a few extra days in free-flight to test new avionics, according to NASA. A series of precise engine firings spread over today, Friday and Monday will guide the Progress toward its automated linkup. The docking is planned to occur next Tuesday at 1923 GMT (3:23 pm EDT). The 24-foot long ship will attach itself to the Earth-facing port on the Pirs docking module, a spot vacated by the previous Progress vessel that undocked Wednesday. The old vehicle, packed with trash, will remain in orbit through May 18 to perform some experiments on the interaction between the craft's engine firings and the plasma environmental around Earth, NASA said. Today's launch, known in the station's assembly matrix as Progress mission 33P, will deliver two-and-a-half tons of supplies to the station. The "dry" cargo tucked aboard the Progress amounts to 3384 pounds in the form of spare parts, life support gear and equipment hardware. The refueling module carries ...

R-7 rocket (soyuz-u)

R-7 Rocket (Soyuz-U)
First launched in 1957, the R-7 became the biggest leap in the world's rocketry since German A-4. Ironically, developed to be the first Soviet ICBM, the R-7 grew obsolete as a weapon even before it started flying. Yet, as a launch-vehicle, it continued serving the Russian space program for more than half a century after it was originally conceived. In the 21st century, the R-7-derived space boosters have remained the only vehicles delivering Russian manned spacecraft into orbit. The construction of the International Space Station is also dependant on the R-7-based boosters, launching supply ships and lifeboats for the outpost's crews.

Progress 44 (M-12M) Fails To Reach Orbit - August 24, 2011.mp4
Progress 44 (M-12M) Fails To Reach Orbit After what looked like a visibly successful launch on a Soyuz-U Rocket the Progress M-12M unsuccessfully detached from the upper stage after an early shutdown of the stage. It was confirmed a while after launch the Progress Spacecraft and 3 tonns of Supplies crashed near Altai. Approximately 325 seconds into flight, a malfunction was detected in the RD-0110 engine powering the Blok I third stage of the Soyuz-U rocket, which caused the onboard computer to terminate the flight through thrust termination. As a result, the vehicle failed to achieve orbit, reentering over the Altai Republic region of Russia. It was the first failure of a Progress spacecraft since launches began in 1978.
