Va' pensiero... riccardo muti speaking about italian culture, opera di roma, 12.03.2011

Va' pensiero... Riccardo Muti speaking about Italian culture, Opera di Roma, 12.03.2011
Muti said : yes, viva Italia... But, as we are in house, quite at home, let us speak together. "Va pensiero", in old days, was a political symbol. I'm not a politician but I can say that if our culture goes on being slain, our Italia will be "si bella e perduta". So, as the choir has beautifully sung it, we should join them to sing another time "Va, pensiero !"

Rome - italy - unesco world heritage site

Rome - Italy - UNESCO World Heritage Site
Rome is the capital of Italy and the country's largest and most populated city and comune, with over 2.7 million residents in 1285.3 km2 (496.3 sq mi). The city is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, on the Tiber River within the Lazio region of Italy. Rome's history spans two and a half thousand years. It was the capital city of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire, which was the dominant power in Western Europe and the lands bordering the Mediterranean for over seven hundred years from the 1st century BC until the 7th century AD. Since the 1st century AD Rome has been the seat of the Papacy and, after the end of Byzantine domination, in the 8th century it became the capital of the Papal States, which lasted until 1870. In 1871 Rome became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, and in 1946 that of the Italian Republic. After the Middle Ages, Rome was ruled by popes such as Alexander VI and Leo X, who transformed the city into one of the major centers of the Italian Renaissance, along with Florence.[2] The current version of St Peter's Basilica was built and the Sistine Chapel was painted by Michelangelo. Famous artists and architects, such as Bramante, Bernini and Raphael resided for some time in Rome, contributing to its Renaissance and Baroque architecture. In 2007 Rome was the 11th-most-visited city in the world, 3rd most visited in the European Union, and the most popular tourist attraction in Italy. The city is one of ...

RICARDO ASENSIO
Ricardo Asensio (born 27 February, 1949) is an Spanish painter. Prestigious portraitist of the illustrious and the intellectuals, he is an artist who has a compromise with the renovation in paint. Italian singer-songwriter lucio dalla dies at 68

Italian singer-songwriter Lucio Dalla dies at 68
ROME (AP) — Lucio Dalla, an Italian singer-songwriter who sold millions of records worldwide, died Thursday in Switzerland during a European concert tour, his management company said. Dalla, 68, apparently died of a heart attack in a Montreux hotel after eating breakfast, according to Ph.D srl Music Managment, which is based in his native city of Bologna, Italy. Dallas, whose musical genres ranged from folk to jazz to classical, gave a concert Wednesday in the Swiss city known for its music and "was in fine form," said Pascal Pellegrino, the director of Montreux's "culture season." Pellegrino said the performance was warmly applauded and Dalla stayed on to chat with fans. Dalla's haunting melody "Caruso" sold 9 million copies worldwide and was sung by the late opera great Luciano Pavarotti with Dalla at a 1992 concert in Modena. Dalla toured abroad frequently, including in the United States, sometimes with another famed Italian folksong writer, Francesco De Gregori. Italy's president, Giorgio Napolitano, was among those quickly paying tribute. "(Dalla was) a strong and original voice who contributed to renew and promote Italian song in the world. He was an artist beloved by so many Italians of several generations," the president said in a condolence message. Promoted by another Italian singer and songwriter, Gino Paoli, Dalla started performing in the 1960s. In 1977, Dalla's first album with songs written by himself — "How Deep is the Sea" — came out. He produced new ...

Italy: fighting the cultural digital divide with an "internet evangelizing show"

Italy: fighting the cultural digital divide with an
At Milan Theatre in 2008 took place the first of "The Internet Show" with Marco Montemagno, promoted by the no profit association Codice Internet, www.codiceinternet.it. It's an itinerant internet evangelizing show throughout Italy (free for the audience) the mission is to explain the Internet opportunities to the masses (...in a new and entertaining way) and to contribute to fill the cultural digital divide gap (in Italy 6 out of 10 italians do not use Internet :( ). The "presentation/show" is based on a speech always in synch with videos and includes several cool interactions with the audience: playing table tennis on stage (comparison with the internet rules), folding tshirt in 5 second, playing wii live with the audience on a maxi screen, opening a blog collectively live in 5 minutes, demonstrating how internet works with people throwing 2 table tennis balls all over the hall, and so on :) Duration: 1h 40 mins Subtitles: English, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Portoguese Please share this video! It was built by Augustus in the name of his sister, Octavia Minor, at some time after 27 BC in place of the Porticus Metelli, the porticus enclosed within its colonnaded walks the temples of Jupiter Stator and Juno Regina, next to the Theater of Marcellus. It was burned in 80 and restored, probably by Domitian, and again after a second fire in 203 by Septimius Severus and Caracalla. Episode 3: Italy Italy has a reputation for football violence, in part due to the Ultras culture. Dyer firstly travels to Turin, and meets the Drughi Ultras from Juventus. The Drughi are named after the Droogs in the cult film A Clockwork Orange. Dyer speaks with members of the Drughi about the Heysel Stadium disaster in 1985, and is told of Juventus fans hatred of all English football fans. Dyer then briefly travels to Bergamo in Lombardy, and meets a top member of Atalanta BC's Curva Nord Ultras. Dyer then goes to Rome and attends the biggest derby in Italian football, the Derby della Capitale, between SS Lazio and AS Roma. The two teams share the Stadio Olimpico, with Lazio fans using the Curva Nord as their home stand, and Roma fans using the Curva Sud as their home stand. In the first half, Dyer stands in the Curva Sud with Roma's ultras, where before kick off, Roma legend Marco Delvecchio comes and greets the fans in the stand. At half time Danny goes round to the other side of the stadium to experience the derby from the Curva Nord with Lazio's Irriducibili ultras. My voyage to italy (1999) - martin scorsese - clip 1

My Voyage to Italy (1999) - Martin Scorsese - Clip 1
www.mrbongo.com In My Voyage to Italy, American master Martin Scorsese (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver) explores, in detail, the legacy of the classic period of Italian cinema. Beginning with Roberto Rossellini's Rome Open City, the film traces the development of Italian neorealism: its currents and its philosophy, its evolution and its descent. Classics such as The Bicycle Thief and La Dolce Vita are discussed alongside rarer titles like Senso and Europa '51. Scorsese's appreciation is rooted in his identity as an Italian-American film-maker. Less a documentary than an impassioned essay, it ultimately provides a portrait of a national cinema that doubles as a disguised autobiography. Made in 1999, My Voyage to Italy was a cultural initiative undertaken by Martin Scorsese as part of his tireless campaign in restoring and preserving the world's greatest films. Produced by iconic couturier Giorgio Armani, with the help of archivists Raffaele Donato, Kent Jones and the legendary screenwriter Suso Cecchi d'Amico (The Bicycle Thief, The Leopard); the film serves as an ode and monument to the history of film.
