Jerry mander - globalization and indigenous cultures

Jerry Mander - Globalization and Indigenous Cultures
Complete video at: www.fora.tv Author and social critic Jerry Mander discusses how the cultural concepts of indigenous peoples endure despite globalization, and speculates on the benefits of adapting these ideas to modern life. ----- In this spirited book, Jerry Mander partners with the celebrated indigenous leader Victoria Tauli-Corpuz to gather powerful firsthand reports on a momentous collision of worldviews that pits the forces of economic globalization against the Earth's indigenous peoples. With many of the planet's remaining natural resources on indigenous lands, traditional practices of biodiversity preservation have, ironically, made these lands targets for global corporations seeking the last forests, genetic and plant materials, oil, and minerals to feed their unsustainable growth. Corporate invaders often employ military force, as well as harsh pressures from the World Bank, IMF, and WTO. But native peoples refuse to be victims; their stories of resistance and growing success are gathered here by twenty-five writers to describe the impacts. Jerry Mander is founder of the International Forum on Globalization. His books include "In the Absence of the Sacred" and "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television" - Cody's Books

Treasures of gori's tempel.flv

TREASURES of GORI's TEMPEL.flv
GORI TEMPEL A Hindu JAIN temple built in the 1300's, glowing white in the middle of the desert. Gori, some 23 Kms north -west from Virawah, contains a very fine old lain temple measuring 38 metres by 15 and built of marble. It was for several times plundered due to its popularity for abundances in wealth. It is a symbol of unique ancient construction. The temple is in fairly good condition and is believed to have been built during the heydays of Sodhas around 1376 AD It has exquisitely decorated interiors reflecting the aesthetic sensibility of those who made it. It is very similar to the one at Bodhesar but far more superior in craftsmanship and finish, bearing architectural influence from adjacent Rajasthan from where the followers of the faith infiltrated into Nagarparkar and brought a new style of temple architecture. The neglected temple The reason why a Jain Temple in Tharparkar is in shambles is because the masses are becoming increasingly apathetic towards heritage, and also because of the scarce resources available with the government By Shahid Husain The Jain Temple of Pari Nagar, situated at Virawah, some four miles from Nagarparkar in district Tharparkar is in shambles. This is because of the general apathy of our people towards heritage and scarce resources available with the Department of Archeology, Sindh. It has also been an eyesore to religious bigots who reportedly disfigured two idols, which were in an intimate embrace.jang.com.pk
