Anne Waldman at the Poetry Project New Year's Marathon 1/1 2009
A major figure in the Poetry Project since the '60's and it's former director, Anne Waldman has been writing, performing and teaching at Naropa Institue for Disembodied Poetics for many years. Her presentation is extremely emphatic, emotional and pararational but we can understand her activist messages--such as, presented here, "Problem not Solving," her cry to end the suffering in Gaza.

"the menage" by carl rakosi/anne waldman/ed bowes

"The Menage,"is a poem by Carl Rakosi ("By the late 1920s, Rakosi was in correspondence with Ezra Pound, who prompted Louis Zukofsky to contact him. This led to Rakosi's inclusion in the Objectivist issue of Poetry and in the Objectivist Anthology. Rakosi himself had reservations about the Objectivist tag, feeling that the poets involved were too different from each other to form a group in any meaningful sense of the word. He did, however, especially admire the work of Charles Reznikoff"- Wikipedia) The film is an interpretation of Rakosi's work. It was created by poet Anne Waldman and film artist Ed Bowes in 2003.

Anne Waldman -- Uh-Oh Plutonium! (1982)
This is a fix of a music video posted by DeepDishTV. The audio on the original was barely discernible without maxing the volume settings on YouTube and my PC, and even then it was faint. I replaced the audio with a better sounding recording and attempted to sync with the video as much as possible, even though the performance is clearly lip-synced. Also where the original video cuts off abruptly, I tacked on footage gleaned from earlier segments.

Frank sherlock presents anne waldman & thom donovan at moonstone arts center (part 1)

Frank Sherlock Presents Anne Waldman & Thom Donovan at Moonstone Arts Center (Part 1)
February 28, 2012. Moonstone Arts Center's Larry Robin introduces Frank Sherlock, who introduces Thom Donovan. Donovan is co-featuring with Anne Waldman. Anne Waldman author of The Iovis Trilogy -- Colors in the Mechanism of Concealment ($40.00 Coffee House Press) & Thom Donovan author of The Hole ($19.95 Displaced Press) Published for the first time in its entirety, this major epic poem assures Anne Waldman's place in the pantheon of contemporary poetry. The Iovis Trilogy, Waldman's monumental feminist epic, traverses epochs, cultures, and genres to create a visionary call to poetic arms. Iovis details the misdeeds of the Patriarch, and with a fierce imagination queries and subverts his warmongering. All of Waldman's themes come into focus—friendship, motherhood, politics, and Buddhist wisdom. This is epic poetry that goes beyond the old injunction "to include history"—its effort is to change history. "Waldman takes you by the collar and slams you down with language, image, and message, leaving you breathless and shattered in the aftermath of her incantatory vision. . . . The poems repeat themselves, wrap around themselves, glide through linguistic holes that only the poet herself could have seen. They trumpet, blare, and whisper vision upon vision of a world gone crazy with war and patriarchal mores, then proceed to share another vision, one of healing and peace. . . . This is a book of action, a poetic clarion call. Huge and weighty, it will be compared to The Cantos ...
