Neo-liberalism: the orthodox view of globalization

What is Neoliberalism? Broadly speaking, neoliberalism is today's pervading socio-economic ideology that stresses the expansion of commercial activity into public and non-commercial aspects of society. Neoliberalism refers to a range of economic policies that stresses the free flow of goods, services and capital across national borders; deregulation and liberalization of the economy; privatization of industry; financialization by increasing the role of domestic and foreign private investment; and corporatization of the public sector (re-organizing the state sector to resemble a corporate governance structure). The theory of neoliberalism is grounded in the classical liberal belief that free markets are naturally in equilibrium, that the expansion of free trade and the facilitation of capital accumulation leads to pareto efficient outcomes (maximizes the common good of all parties involved) and argues that unregulated private business is the most efficient form of economic enterprise. This mindset views national borders and states with suspicion, perceiving them to be "interventions" that distort the international market by inhibiting or limiting the free flow of capital, labor, goods and services in the international market, thereby leading to inefficient outcomes. Neoliberalism is contrasted with earlier forms of capitalism, such as "embedded" liberalism, state-interventionism and the European social market models that mixed moderate levels of state-directed investment ... Mayday 2004. indymedia ireland edit. weekend of resistance to neoliberal eu project

In 2004 Dublin Grassoots Network hosted a "Weekend of Resistance" supported by people all over the country and many european activists. Its was the largest anarchist anti authoritarian mobilisation in the history of the state. For its part the state mobilised its largest military and police operation to suppress our dissent. The state was supported by copy paste journalism and demonisation of organisers and participants, who focus soley on issues of violence thereby depoliticising our movements. The mobilisation was called to coincide with the expansion of the EU neoliberal project to 10 other countries mainly former Eastern European countries. Recent history shows us that our analysis was correct and every single one of our predictions 8 years ago has come to pass We argued, as we can now see correctly that the EU project was part of the 'Washington consensus' and the 'Lisbon Agenda' which would result in increasing inequality on our societies and a further erosion of even the minimal democracy of electoral representations. How did we work? Neoliberal arizmendi "parklet" construction continues on labor day!

This is the eighth day of constuction of the Arizmendi "parklet." People will sit out in the street and watch the N Judah whiz by. The level of particulate matter on this street, (see black screen!) which they are inhaling, is quite heavy. No notification was given to residents before the commencement of this construction! Under the guise of "creating community space" a British expat slumming in the Sunset, together with other members of an effete Inner Sunset organization (who have been in favor of park privatization, the expulsion of a recycling center, etc.) put this in right under the noses of neighbors and businesses. The Animal Pet Hospital and Mary Anne's Beauty salon, as well as other businesses and residents, actively protested the erection of this platform. Arizmendi was asked to substitute a bike corral and a picnic table in the park (a whole block away!) , but they declined to respond. However, it was all to no avail. The City actively fixed the process, for these "parklets" are a political showpiece and a triumph for near-billionaire Mark Groton, founder of Limewire and the propagandistic "news" website "Streetsblog" It is singularly depressing to see City resources squandered for these ridiculous ends. While thousands go towards administrative costs (along with lost revenue from two parking meters), the Arboretum is now charging $7 to get in, claiming that the City is in fiscal crisis!
