Nabucco muti contro i tagli alla cultura

Un fuori programma inaspettato ieri sera al Teatro dell'Opera di Roma per la prima del Nabucco,Muti, già sul podio con la bacchetta in mano, si è rivolto al pubblico ed ha svolto questo paragone: "Il 9 marzo del 1842 -- ha detto -- Nabucco debuttava come opera patriottica tesa all'unità ed all'identità dell'Italia. Oggi, 12 marzo 2011 non vorrei che Nabucco fosse il canto funebre della cultura e della musica". Parole accolte da applausi e da una pioggia di volantini dalla balconata, che dicevano "Italia risorgi nella difesa del patrimonio della cultura" Dopo aver diretto il fatidico coro del terzo atto il maestro ha detto: "Sono molto addolorato per ciò che sta avvenendo, non lo faccio solo per ragioni patriottiche ma noi rischiamo davvero che la nostra patria sarà 'bella e perduta', come dice Verdi. E se volete unirvi a noi, il bis lo facciamo insieme". E come ad un comando tacito tutti gli spettatori si sono alzati in piedi e coloro che sapevano qualche rigo del testo hanno cantato insieme ai cento coristi rimasti sul palcoscenico. Known as Verdi's "Jewish" work of art, it recollects the story of Jewish exiles from Babylon after the loss of the First Temple in Jerusalem. The opera with its powerful chorus established Verdi as a major composer in 19th century Italy. Some scholars initially regarded it as an anthem for Italian patriots, who were seeking to unify their country in the years up to 1861 and free it from foreign control (the chorus's theme of exiles singing about their homeland, and its lines like O mia patria, si bella e perduta / "O my country, so lovely and so lost" was thought to have resonated with many Italians). El último 12 de marzo, Silvio Berlusconi debió enfrentar la realidad. Italia festejaba el 150 aniversario de su unificación y en esa ocasión se dio en la ópera de Roma la ópera "Nabucco" de Giuseppe Verdi, dirigida por el maestro Ricardo Muti. Nabucco es una obra tanto musical como política: evoca el episodio de la esclavitud de los judíos en Babilonia, y su famoso coro "Va pensiero" es el canto de los esclavos oprimidos. En Italia, este canto es el símbolo de la búsqueda de libertad del pueblo, que a fines del siglo XIX -época en que se escribió la ópera - estaba oprimido por el imperio Habsburgo, al que combatió hasta la ceación de la Italia unificada. Antes de la representación, Gianni Alemanno, alcalde de Roma, subió al escenario para pronunciar un discurso denunciando los recortes al presupuesto de cultura que hizo el gobierno, a pesar de que Alemanno es miembro del partido gobernante y viejo ministro de Berlusconi.
