Mr. game & watch's moves - history behind super smash bros. brawl

Mr. Game & Watch's Moves - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Shows where Mr. Game & Watch's moves come from. Since a few of Mr. Game & Watch's characteristics and attacks relate back to the original handheld Game & Watches, I used my small collection of Game & Watches and my camera to explain those characteristics. With that being said, I apologize for my camera going out of focus sometimes. It does that occasionally when I am trying to focus on something small (or it focuses on reflections instead of the object in front of it), even though it is supposed to auto-set to either normal or macro mode. -__- And no, I am not the best narrator in the world, so bear with me. :P

I acquired the NES and SNES videos from emulators and the N64 and SSBM video with my capture device. (Note my username.)

This video goes a little slower than the rest of the videos I uploaded simply because of the nature of Earthbound.

Marth's moves - history behind super smash bros. melee

Marth's Moves - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Melee
In this video I show what I believe is one of the origins for Marth's sword, why his taunt is in Japanese and why Fire Emblem is very hard to translate into Super Smash Bros. Melee. Having one semester of Japanese under my belt at this point, and with the game being in only hiragana and katakana, I attempt to translate some of Fire Emblem's text, but I am only able to do Marth's name, the word "level," and the name of his sword. Anything I can't translate I romanize followed by a "(?)". I captured the Fire Emblem video with an NES emulator and the SSBM video with my capture device.

Marth's moves - history behind super smash bros. brawl

Marth's Moves - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl
READING THROUGH THIS WOULDN'T HURT! Shows where I believe Marth's moves come from or what they are influenced by. Special thanks to SobmicSSBB. His Marth's moves video gave me a head start in info on this video. --- Like Pikachu's Volt Tackle, Marth obtaining the Falchion (the legendary sword he uses in Brawl), involves a fairly lengthy process. --- Even though Marth has the Falchion in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it behaves more like a rapier and even sparkles like the Miracle Sword. Marth's Smash-A is the only move that is the same when Marth is equipped with the Falchion in the original game. --- Since Marth's "arrival" animation is from Path of Radiance (despite having no connection with that universe), I decided to show the evolution of the warping animations from Fire Emblem Gaiden up until Path of Radiance to show how they have changed. --- Unlike when I made Marth's Moves for Melee, I know enough Japanese to play through the game and understand SOME of the dialogue. (Though I admit I did seek some outside help when translating Gharnef's dialogue.) While I have translated some of the Japanese text in the original Fire Emblem, I only translated what I believe is relevant within the context of the video instead of every little piece of text that shows up on screen. With that being said, I also refer to games using their Japanese titles in Roman characters instead of translating the names. The reason for this is because none of the Fire Emblem games shown in this video ...

Pikachu's moves - history behind super smash bros. brawl

Pikachu's Moves - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl
PLEASE READ THIS VIDEO DESCRIPTION! This video shows where I believe some of Pikachu's moves come from or my ideas behind what possibly influenced some of his moves. By the way, I don't mean for my videos to come out this long. My goal is not to intentionally make videos as long as some television shows. So, at this point, I think it's a good time to re-establish the focus of my project. All I do is present what I know and what I have found out through looking deeper at some aspects of the original sources of Brawl. I am not claiming that everything in my videos is 100% accurate or 100% complete. However, I do my best to cover everything I know or have found out as best as I can in a concise manner. With that being said, researching some aspects of Volt Tackle led me into an unusual chain of possible references. While I can't say with 100% certainty what is referencing what, all I can really do is present the evidence I found for the references, even if no particular conclusion can be drawn. Furthermore, a few of Pikachu's moves were inconclusive as to what the *actual* sources (or inspirations) were, when looking at the Pokémon series. (Chances are, a few aspects about Pikachu's moves were simply made up for the Smash Bros. series.) So, try to keep this things in mind when watching this video. Hope you enjoy it! ---------- On a related note, I feel like my video on Pikachu's moves in Melee was kinda... fail. I'm actually considering deleting it. I may or may not. I'll ...

Zelda and sheik's moves - history behind super smash bros. brawl

Zelda and Sheik's Moves - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl
This video shows what I believe influenced Zelda and Sheik's moves. This video starts out by briefly discussing the roles Zelda played in The Legend of Zelda games she was featured in. Since the Sages are related to her roles, I discuss them too. Basically, since she shows supernatural and magical abilities in some of the games she was in, I believe this is why she was given a magic-based moveset in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. So, I do my best to be comprehensive about Zelda's abilities in certain Legend of Zelda games to not only relate to Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but to better cover her character from a "history" perspective. This part of the video is only about the first five minutes though. The rest of the video discusses specific moves and should be less subjective about what I believe influenced each individual one. If you're wanting to jump to the history behind her Final Smash, it starts at 17:37. And just to be clear... Much of the original material for Zelda is based on dialogue and cutscenes, which helped contribute to this video's length.

Kirby's moves - history behind super smash bros. brawl

Kirby's Moves - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Shows where I believe Kirby's moves come from or what they have been influenced by. CORRECTION: It should be the Cutter ability at 6:18, not the Ninja ability. I sometimes don't notice these things until it's too late, like this time, after I released this video the public. At 7:28, it should obviously be "Brawl", not "Melee". Also, I apologize for "Pokémon" at 18:55 . I thought I had the subtitle file set to Unicode before I encoded it into the video, and I forgot to check before uploading it to YouTube. -__- If the subtitle file was set to Unicode before encoding, it would read "Pokémon" instead. I cover some additional history on Kirby's copy abilities and hats in a separate video, which I will try to post as a response to this one. I decided to make it a separate video since putting it in the beginning of this one would make the first half drag on too long. (More info on that video its description.) Also, I believe that when Kirby turns into a spiked ball for the down-B Stone move in Brawl, it's just a spiked ball, and not a Gordo.* When I did the Melee video, I didn't include it, but some people still wanted the Gordo reference, so that's why I decided to include it in this video. *I don't believe it's a Gordo because it doesn't have a face on it, unlike when Kirby turns into a Super Mario 64 Thwomp. Furthermore, there are actual Gordos in King Dedede's moveset, which don't look like the spiked ball Kirby turns into.

Diddy Kong's Moves - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl
PLEASE READ THIS DESCRIPTION. Shows where I believe Diddy Kong's moves come from. I did not include his B-over move, Monkey Flip, because it is an original move. Even Diddy tossing a banana peel is original, but there are still connections to his past games, even though they're somewhat weak. Also, the banana peel is an ITEM. And as such, it will be covered when I get around to doing the video on items. I'm well aware of its history. Diddy Kong just happens to produce the same one that spawns when items are turned on. I was unsure about including references to the Mario sports games, since those connections are also weak at best, but in the end, I decided to include them since people tend to have a "the more the merrier" type of outlook on what clips to include in these videos. Enjoy.

Luigi's moves - history behind super smash bros. brawl

Luigi's Moves - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl
READ THIS DESCRIPTION BEFORE COMMENTING! Seriously. This video shows possible inspiration and theories behind Luigi's moves, style of movement and general character. This video is a bit different from the others as Luigi already has some moves that are similar to Mario's, some moves that are different from Mario in addition to a distinct personality in the game. Yet Luigi doesn't have too many moves with a solid history either. Keep in mind that I have to use evidence that is already in his previous games for what I am trying to show. I can't just say something like "Luigi lives in his brother's shadow" without some type of indication of it in his original games. So, I first show a general intro showing their similarity in their original games. Then I show how Mario and Luigi are similar in Brawl while comparing it to their similarity in many of their original games. I try to be brief since I already covered certain moves that are common between Mario and Luigi in depth in Mario's video. To be brief, I focus only on the special B-moves. I am well aware that Mario & Luigi share other moves in Brawl (such as down-smash A), but there's no point in going overboard duplicating what was already presented in Mario's video for the same moves. Next, I show how Mario and Luigi are different, after having showed how they are similar. Then I try to explain how Luigi came to be known as "the second Mario brother," if you will, and how that was translated into Brawl. (Negative Zone) I ...

Fox's Moves - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Shows where I believe Fox's moves come from or what they have been influenced by. As a forewarning, this video is a bit slower than my other Brawl characters' moves videos. (Though not nearly as bad as my Melee ones.) The reasons for this is because trying to show what I need to show in-game and editing Star Fox games' footage was difficult. Some of the footage was cutscenes, which are generally slower than gameplay. (Editing Star Fox 64's footage was especially annoying - the frequent character dialogues would distract the viewer from the subtitles, I believe, so I had to either work around them, or extend the time the subtitles are on screen.) And yes, I am aware of the grammatical error at 5:43 .

PLEASE READ THIS DESCRIPTION! Shows where the Mona Pizza's Song track comes from. Since video from the original game had to be captured in an unorthodox way, I decided to show how I did it after the primary Brawl music history section. 720p is available for this video, but is only needed if you want to watch how I captured the video in greater resolution. So 480p or 360p (or even 240p if you want to go that low) is fine for the main part of the video. You can switch over to 720p afterward. Power-hungry fool - history behind super smash bros. brawl music

Power-Hungry Fool - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl Music
High quality is recommended. Since this music plays only in several different scenes (a few of which are short) in the original game, I decided to show every scene that this music plays in. The Super Smash Bros. Brawl piece begins at 4:20, where I note how it varies slightly from the original. I then discuss the track name at 6:34. This is a pretty interesting music piece. However, I feel that it's kind of an odd choice for the Castle Siege stage, considering the context in which this originally played. That is, it's the theme of a fat, egotistical enemy that's obsessed with beauty not to mention the theme only plays briefly in the game. I suppose the Smash Bros. Brawl sound team was more concerned with the interesting composition of the piece rather than the context in which it played. Unfortunately though, one would need the experience of playing through Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance to understand the storyline behind these cutscenes. So, I'll do my best to explain for those of you that have not played the game. In this Fire Emblem universe, there are the laguz that live on the same continent as the humans. Laguz are shape-shifting humanoids. There are different species of laguz, such as Tiger, Hawk, Dragon, Heron, etc. They are capable of shifting into their respective species, such as a tiger. Laguz can also stay in human-like form but exhibit some type of feature that shows they are laguz, such as wings coming out of the back. Some racial tensions exist between the ...

Onett - history behind super smash bros. melee

Onett - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Melee
The reason I show those things being done in the Drug Store is to illustrate that it's an important place in the game, which is probably why it's the centerpiece for the Onett stage. Also, I did my best to make the quality good for this video, but trying to stretch 100MB over 23 minutes of video isn't easy.

Great Bay - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Melee
OK, zip it. I know it's 20 minutes long, but there's a lot of material to cover for this stage. I can't be bothered to type up a proper description now. I just want to start the video uploading so it gets put up on Youtube. Once that happens, I will then change the description

Rainbow cruise - history behind super smash bros. melee

Rainbow Cruise - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Melee
Attempts to show where the elements of the Rainbow Cruise stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee has been derived from. I know the audio's all over the place with this one, but I did the best I could to fix it (worked on it for several hours, trying different things) and still stay under YouTube's 100MB.

Origin of luffy's moves in one piece: unlimited cruise

Origin of Luffy's moves in One Piece: Unlimited Cruise
I thought that it was quite interesting to see moves from the anime into the game. So I made this vid. It was also inspired by CrappyCaptureDevices: History behind SSBM series, where he explains where the characters moves come from. You can find his account here: www.youtube.com This video that shows where the moves from One Piece Unlimited Cruise. Special thanks to fenberry19 for the One Piece Unlimited Cruise moveset and firestormz0 for Luffy's moves from the anime. Accounts: Fenberry19:www.youtube.com Firestormz0:www.youtube.com I apologize that I could no include pistol, bullet, or shotgun. I could not get the videos for some reason.

Wild pokémon battle! (ruby / sapphire) - history behind super smash bros. brawl music

Wild Pokémon Battle! (Ruby / Sapphire) - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl Music
Shows where the Wild Pokémon Battle (Ruby / Sapphire) track originates. The Brawl arrangement begins at 1:43 The track title explanation begins at 3:19 If you aren't familiar with Pokémon, Wild Pokémon are encountered extremely frequently in any Pokémon game (as it is a major component of Pokémon gameplay), so this track plays frequently and throughout Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. I used a recording of the in-game Wild Pokémon Battle music instead of the soundtrack version when I was showing where the track originally plays. The reason for this is that the soundtrack version has been remastered, so it doesn't quite sound like the original does. Since I am showing how everything is ORIGINALLY, then by rights, I shouldn't use the soundtrack version. However, I do use the very beginning of the soundtrack version when I begin to explain the track's title at 3:19 . If you compare the in-game recording with the soundtrack version, you should notice a difference. I used a downloaded save file to help make this video. Whoever created that save file apparently caught a Gulpin with a Master Ball and also used May. And I don't care if I was using a female Pokémon trainer. It's not like it changes anything. Once again, Japanese Amazon pulls through when I can't find scans of back covers or inserts containing track listings. www.amazon.co.jp

Big blue - history behind super smash bros. melee

Big Blue - History Behind Super Smash Bros. Melee
Sorry for the pixelation during the comic part. It looks fine on my finished high-resolution video, but me having to get the video below 100MB and YouTube's compression destroyed it. Anyway, the first section reads like this: Minutes later... Captain Falcon: Caught up with you at last! Your slimy lizard-butt is mine, creep! Criminal lizard: Cursed mammal bounty hunter--! You die! ZAP! ZAP! AAAARRGH! You should be able to read the rest of it, but if not, let me know and I will transcribe the rest of the comic here. And...I know that the F-Zero machine designs are a little more than half of the video, but if I wouldn't put all of them in there, people would ask me why I didn't. So, I decided to include all of them, but show them as the very last element so it will give people an option to stop watching the video if they so choose and not miss anything else.

Character voices & sound effects - history behind ssbm

Character Voices & Sound Effects - History Behind SSBM
Shows where some of the character voices come from and how they were originally used in the source games. Some characters had original voice actors from other sources, so I also compare those characters' voices. I recommend watching it in high quality if you can. I did my best to find where the characters made the same sounds that they make in Melee, but this was MUCH MORE DIFFICULT than what I thought it would be. I tried to exhaust every possibility that I could think of, but I could not find every single voice act and sound effect. And to make things worse, most of time the things the characters do in their original games aren't the same as what they do in Melee when they make the same sound, which made it even harder to find every single one. Also, in some cases, the character voices don't sound exactly the same, but are still really similar. In those cases, it makes me wonder if the voices were rerecorded. I also know that there are a few comparisons in the video that don't sound very much alike. When I was searching for these in their original games, I had trouble remembering what I was searching for exactly, so I captured everything. Even when I was putting the video together, I still didn't remember what one sounded like when I was listening to the other. So a few got put together that I didn't realize didn't sound alike until I quickly listened to one right after the other after the video was edited. Anyway, if you find one that I missed, first double check to ...
