2011 09 17 open source ecology and the global village construction set

Oh no, I have a webcam now! This is my first ever video ... yeah the audio sucks, and sorry about the monitor glare off my glasses, and I guess its really obvious I'm reading off my "personal teleprompter" (just a Notepad window). I am really excited about Open Source Ecology (www.opensourceecology.org). I hope to have a chance to become more directly involved with the project soon ... for now I'm trying to learn more about their documentation process to see what I can do remotely, but it would be a very special thrill if I became accepted at their Factor e Farm to be part of the process, and I really wouldn't mind just tending the chores like cooking, cleaning, tending to the chickens or the grounds so the geniuses can prototype the machines ... would be absolutely thrilled if I could use my technical writing skills to help develop their documentation though. Yes, they're having to buy parts and materials to develop the GVCS ... but that's because they don't have a working GVCS yet, so it costs money to prototype and develop, but once that's done, they will be able to build all the machines themselves (even forge the steel themselves!). They are determined, they are smart, and they refuse to give up ... and it would be an honor to hang out with these guys and learn to do actual work instead of waiting around for a callback from my kajillion blown-into-the-wind job hunts ... www.opensourceecology.org - I am slowly progressing through putting together the first complete document of how to build a Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) machine, and put together this video to talk about some of the issues I am having with it and why it is taking so long to get progress. Its taking days to get diagrams and accurate directions for the first part, one of the simplest parts to build, and with 19 or more parts still to go, it will likely be months before it is complete at this rate. Asking for help if anyone knows a plugin for OpenOffice that allows for nice, "in-line" diagonal fractions and advice on my philosophy of carefully matching text to the diagrams. Open Source Ecology è una rete di agricoltori, ingegneri e sostenitori cha da due anni sta creando il Global Village Construction Set, una piattaforma open source, a basso costo e ad alte prestazioni che permette la facile costruzione fai da te delle 50 diverse Macchine Industriali che ci vogliono per costruire una comunità abitativa con confort moderni. Il GVCS abbassa le barriere per entrare in attività agricole, di costruzione e di produzione e può essere visto come un set di strumenti modulari tipo Lego a grandezza naturale che può creare intere microeconomie, sia nel Missouri rurale, dove il progetto è nato, sia per il recupero urbano sia nel mondo in via di sviluppo.
