Let's talk about evolution

Let's Talk About Evolution
This video was produced to allow scientists to explain, in their own words, the importance of evolution to science -- and the related importance of teaching evolution in schools. Our goal is to convey the fact that evolution is an amazing, uplifting discovery that has served as the genesis of countless advances in many fields of science. We also wanted to highlight female role models in the science community. For information on what you can do to support evolution in education, please visit these sites. These organizations are not associated with this video in any way, but we think they do great work: National Center For Science Education: ncse.com and American Association For The Advancement Of Science: www.aaas.org We encourage people to film their own videos and contribute to the conversation. Keep it positive: focus on the importance and wonder of evolution, and not on divisive name-calling. Many thanks to all of the scientists who participated in this video. Their individual video submissions are available in their entirety at [insert YouTube channel URL here, assuming we can load those easily]. This video was produced by: Matt Shipman, David Wescott, Jamie Vernon, Kevin Zelnio and Andrea Kuszewski.

After Life: The Science Of Decay (BBC Documentary)
Please Subscribe To The Evolution Documentary YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com Broadcast (2011) If you have ever wondered what would happen in your own home if you were taken away and everything inside was left to rot, the answer is revealed in this programme which explores the strange and surprising science of decay. For two months, a glass box containing a typical kitchen and garden was left to rot in full public view within Edinburgh Zoo. In this resulting documentary, Dr George McGavin and his team use time-lapse cameras and specialist photography to capture the extraordinary way in which moulds, microbes and insects are able to break down our everyday things and allow new life to emerge from old. Decay is something that many of us are repulsed by, but as the programme shows, it's a process that's vital in nature. And seen in close up, it has an unexpected and sometimes mesmerising beauty.

Extreme dinosaurs: science of giants (bbc documentary)

Extreme Dinosaurs: Science Of Giants (BBC Documentary)
Please Subscribe To The EvolutionDocumentary YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com Broadcast (2002) Amazing new discoveries in South America are revolutionising what we thought we knew about the dinosaur world. It now seems that South America was home to both the largest meat-eater - so new it's still without a name - and the largest herbivore - the enormous long-necked Argentinasaurus. And what's more, these dinosaurs lived at the same time in the same place. So it's possible that like in a science fiction movie, in this prehistoric world these two giants of their kind fought each other in a spectacular clash of the Titans. Horizon follows the scientists to Argentina as they unearth one of these giants - a brand new species of dinosaur; the biggest carnivore ever discovered. Not yet named, this new creature is even bigger than T. rex, the so-called 'king' of the carnivores. The new giant South American predator had a skull bigger than a man that was full of serrated, knife-like teeth and long powerful jaw muscles. They could dissect their prey with almost surgical precision. But even this formidable killing machine couldn't alone have taken on the massive long-neck, Argentinasaurus, which was the height of a five-storey building. It must have hunted in a pack. The problem is, the mega-meat-eaters have always been assumed to have been solitary creatures. The evidence shows that they lived and hunted alone. If they weren't pack hunters, then they would never have attacked ...

SOMETHING FROM NOTHING ? [OFFICIAL] Richard Dawkins & Lawrence Krauss [HD] 02-04-12
Join critically-acclaimed author and evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins and world-renowned theoretical physicist and author Lawrence Krauss as they discuss biology, cosmology, religion, and a host of other topics. The authors will also discuss their new books. Dawkins recently published The Magic of Reality: How We Know What's Really True, an exploration of the magic of discovery embodied in the practice of science. Written for all age groups, the book moves forward from historical examples of supernatural explanations of natural phenomena to focus on the actual science behind how the world works. Krauss's latest book, A Universe from Nothing: Why There is Something Rather than Nothing, explains the scientific advances that provide insight into how the universe formed. Krauss tackles the age-old assumption that something cannot arise from nothing by arguing that not only can something arise from nothing, but something will always arise from nothing. Founded in 2008, the ASU Origins Project is a university-wide transdisciplinary initiative aimed at facilitating cutting edge research and inquiry about origins questions, enhancing public science literacy, and improving science education. Since its inception, the Origins Project has brought the world's leading scientists, including Nobel Prize winners, to Tempe to explore origins questions. What Creationists Won't Tell You - Evolution Theory (the real deal 1)
How 'bout whooping some creationists' ass with good old science and logic. In this video I rip'em all, from Kent Hovind, Steven Mayer and even Nephilim peeks in every now and then. Each getting a lesson (as you will too) about how fast evolution really is, the different mechanisms that induce and control mutations and variation, how genes cross from one species to another horizontally, how our DNA tells us that we have common ancestors with other living beings and in general how genetic evolution REALLY works. Here are some pretty good links for videos, research papers and articles that I used for my research, as well as links that will clarify what is more and less disputed in the stuff I say in the vid (biologists and scientists in general tend to be cautious when they outline findings). Men Of Rock 1/3 Deep Time (BBC Documentary)
Please Subscribe To The Evolution Documentary YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com Broadcast (2011) Professor Iain Stewart traces the story of how the landscape of Scotland revealed to the world how the planet works. A band of pioneer geologists in Scotland were the first to work out the true age of the Earth, measure earthquakes, understand supervolcanoes, discover the ice ages and explain how continents move around the surface of the planet. This new three-part series takes us through the latest science about the Earth and shows how these early mavericks and visionaries came up with revolutionary ideas that changed scientific understanding of the world forever. Deep Time: Iain Stewart follows in the footsteps of the founding father of geology, James Hutton. This Scottish rogue was a profound and original thinker who, 250 years ago, overturned ancient beliefs about how and when the world was formed. His ideas clashed with those of the most eminent scientist of his day. Lord Kelvin was determined to prove Hutton wrong. Moving Mountains: Iain finds out how gung-ho geologist Edward Bailey discovered Scotland was once home to super volcanoes. And how unsung hero Arthur Holmes solved the mystery of what makes continents move across the surface of the globe. Iain takes a close look at the Old Man of Stoer, one of the highest sea stacks in Britain, and we learn how the Victorians came up with an ingenious device to show how mountains can be made. Computational cultural evolution: two textual case studies: dan rockmore

Computational Cultural Evolution: Two Textual Case Studies: Dan Rockmore
[The Vermont Complex Systems Center at the University of Vermont presented this talk on May 11, 2012, as part of its Complex Systems Spire Speaker Series.] The digitization of huge collections of cultural artifacts is making possible a discipline of cultural studies based on large-scale quantitative and statistical analysis. While this is true for cultural artifacts of many kinds, this is especially true of text. In this talk, Dan Rockmore discusses two particular recent textual studies: an analysis of the evolution of writing style (using the Gutenberg.org corpus) and a study of national constitutions. This is joint work with Nick Foti, James Hughes, and David Krakauer. Dan Rockmore is Director of the Neukom Institute for Computational Science at Dartmouth College, and the William H. Neukom 1964 Distinguished Professor of Computational Science. He holds appointments in two academic departments, Mathematics, where he is also Chair, and Computer Science.
