London White city Unigate Dairy FIRE-- 31 January 2012 A large fire has sent smoke over west London as 75 firefighters try to extinguish the blaze at a range of industrial units. London Fire Brigade said 15 fire engines were at the scene in Shepherds Bush. The fire has now been contained. White City Tube station and Wood Lane were closed after the blaze started at 09:35 GMT. Around 100 fire-fighters are at the scene and more than 100 people have been evacuated from the factory complex, which used to be owned by Unigate. A range of industrial units have been affected. Currently there are no reports of injuries, however a temporary safety cordon has been erected, as there are thought to be some gas cylinders inside the building which could explode in extreme temperatures, reports the BBC. Wood Lane has been closed in both directions and White City Tube station has been closed while buses in the area are being diverted. A Transport for London spokesman said: 'TfL is working to divert traffic away from the area and minimise any disruption caused by this incident.' Hundreds of thousands of evacuated New Yorkers are being allowed back home after a weakening Tropical Storm Irene churned over the US financial capital without causing extensive damage. Fears of major flooding have subsided and New York's stock exchanges are due to open on Monday, even if public transport and flights remain suspended. Heavy flooding inundates budalangi again

The Kenya Red Cross says the country could witness the worst flooding in years.The rains continue to wreck havoc in different parts of the country. In Budalangi, families are being evacuated following heavy flooding in the area. Flood waters from River Nzoia have submerged the Budalangi dykes. In Kehancha, transport between Kuria and Transmara district has been cut off after heavy rains swept away the only bridge connecting the two districts. Ethiopia has been plunged into mourning after nine artists were killed and 17 seriously injured in a car accident.
