Matthew Christopher Renken CHARLESTON - Matthew Christopher Renken of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on April 22, 2012. The relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 28, at 2 pm, followed by internment at Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel between 5 and 7 pm on Friday, April 27. Matthew was born March 7, 1973, the son of Ralph Ernest Renken and Linda Glisson Renken Wackym. He attended Bishop England High School, the University of London, and received his BA from Wingate University, where he was a member of Delta Sigma fraternity. He was the former owner of the Gateway House Inn in Charleston and the current owner of Port City Liquors and Plan Ahead Events of Charleston. Matthew was a member of service organizations, including Hibernian Society, Delta Sig and St. Matthew's Church. He served on several boards, including the Harbour Club and the Village Playhouse. Matthew spent countless hours organizing and attending fundraising events for charitable causes, one of his favorites being Hounds for Heroes. He is survived by his Mother, Linda, and Step Father, Col. F. Nick Wackym of Charleston, SC; two sisters: Robin Renken Dallis (Alex) of Charleston, SC, and Roxanne Renken Blakely (Steve) of Kingsland, GA; two brothers: Ralph E. Woodstick big beat 2010--a. michael collins

Here I am working out the rust at Woodstick. I pretty much hadn't played since last year's event! The sound is kind of muffled for some reason although the camera is in the same vantage point as my other vid from this year. Woodstick is a hoot of a time. There were some really good young players there out in the general crowd, as well as some real heavies like: Kenny Aronoff (John (Cougar) Mellencamp, Alan White (Yes), Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot), Thomas Pridgen (Mars Volta)—I'd have to say his solo was the most powerful and impressive, even moreso that Aronoff, although I'm not too much into drummer vs. drummer comparisons— that wacky "This Drummer is at the Wrong Gig" dude Steve Moore, Jeff Kathan (Paul Rodgers Band), Bryan Hitt (REO Speedwagon), and others. We were around 400 drummers strong, and pushed the meter to 105 dB at one point! My right leg has some nerve damage from an accident last year, but I find that the drumming really helps a lot. I need to make more time to practice and get back behind the kit more! It's just a bunch of wanking, trying to work up some chops, but maybe someone will find it entertaining.
