We passed within a few hundred feet of the structures. Got some GREAT shots of the steam venting near the reactor buildings. This nuclear plant 'vented' clouds of steam laced with tritium this past week -- the clouds were blown by prevailing winds over downtown Chicago, IL. Thus the reason for this measurement taking trip. Todays levels near the plant directly are below the alert level of 100CPM -- but a full 20CPM above downtown Chicago (those tests will be uploaded later tonight). Todays measurements averaged between 45cpm and 48cpm. Several more to still be processed and uploaded.. most averaging in the 50CPM range.. These 'mid level' readings -- half way to the alert level of 100CPM--- leads me to believe that the tritium is dissipating as expected -- however some elevated amounts still remain. The Anshas nuclear reactor, located on the outskirts of Cairo, has leaked ten cubic meters of radioactive water for the second time in a year, according to Samer Mekheimar, the former director of the Nuclear Research Center's atomic reactions department. Mekheimar submitted a note to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, saying the leakage took place on 25 May as a result of operating the reactor without taking into account safety precautions. He also said the Atomic Energy Agency kept the incident secret and threatened to fire the staff if they talked about it. "The fact that the reactor was by mere chance not operated the next day saved the area from environmental disaster," he wrote. Great work done by this man. This is a must see by anyone. People have been clueless to the fact that nuclear bombs have been going on right in their back yard. Including not too many counties away from me a couple have been tested. Anyways, I wish I did not have to speed the video up 3x but people attention spans these days don't seem to be very long and I want as many people to see this as possible. Operation redwing - united states nuclear weapons test

Operation Redwing was a United States series of 17 nuclear test detonations from May to July 1956. They were conducted at Bikini and Enewetak atolls. The primary intention was to test new, second-generation thermonuclear devices. Also tested were fission devices intended to be used as primaries for thermonuclear weapons, and small tactical weapons for air defense. Redwing demonstrated the first US airdrop of a deliverable hydrogen bomb - test "Cherokee". Because the yields for many tests at Operation Castle in 1954 were dramatically higher than predictions, Redwing was conducted using an "energy budget" - there were limits to the total amount of energy released, and the amount of fission yield was also strictly controlled.
